Luke 21:9-10: [Jesus said] "When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away." Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom."
Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammed ElBaradei has resigned as Vice President of Egypt after today’s clashes between government forces and Muslim Brotherhood protesters.
“It has become difficult for me to continue bearing responsibility for decisions that I do not agree with and whose consequences I fear,” ElBaradei said in his resignation letter. “I cannot bear the responsibility for one drop of blood.”
ElBaradei shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 with the International Atomic Energy Agency for his efforts to keep nuclear materials used for power and peaceful uses rather than military applications.
New developments in the Egyptian situation include the arrest of Muslim Brotherhood leaders Essam el-Erian and Mohamed el-Beltagy. El-Beltagy has been using the protesters to keep up their actions against government forces and police claiming the move to remove protesters from their camps is a “genocide”. His daughter was killed in the clashes today.
The BBC said that some reporters on the ground have said they were kept behind vehicles by security forces for 8 hours as gunfire from the pro-Morsi protesters shot over them.
The Egyptian government released details of the state of emergency and curfew:
• The government will decide the opening and closing times for public places
• Authority to withdraw licenses of guns, ammunition and explosive materials
• Authority to evacuate and control movement in certain areas
• Granting the army permission to work with local police to control areas
• Surveillance of all messages including newspapers and other media
• Restrictions on the freedoms of person, movement and traffic in certain places at certain times and the power to arrest those deemed dangerous to the public order.
