At some point, I fully expect the US dollar’s value to go to zero because the US government will crank up the printing presses and create a tsunami of US dollars to throw at our economic problems. I believe that gold and silver can be used to protect your savings from a Weimar Germany style hyperinflation.
Gold and silver have been money for 6,000 years. Gold is curiously praised as early as Genesis 2

The Biblical word for “money” is the word for “silver”. When Revelation 6:6 says “A quart of wheat for a denarius”, that denarius is one-tenth of an ounce of silver, so I believe that gold and silver will have some value during the end times.
Yes, I fully agree that you can’t eat gold, but while food is a 1st class barter item, eventually, people will need something other than food. If the guy with the gasoline you need, wants new tires, and doesn’t want your chickens, you’ve got a problem.
There is only so much food you can stock pile before it becomes counter productive. Storing 10 tons of rice will be a bit of a problem and if you ever have to bug-out it’s going to be really hard to move 10 tons of rice.
Rick Wyles said recently that at some point he will leave the United States. If you decided to move to a foreign country it’s likely they would not want your US dollars. Even if you could transport 10 tons of rice to your new country, they may not let you transport it across their border without major problems, theft, loss or nationalization (confiscation). Gold is universally considered money around the world and transporting a few gold coins is a lot easier that transporting 10 tons of rice.
