New Wildfire Breaks Out In Colorado

The foothills southwest of Denver erupted into flames Wednesday forcing the evacuation of dozens of homes.

Firefighters in the region say that hot and windy conditions are making it easy for fires to start. The newest fire near Pine, Colorado is small but a concern to local officials because of large flames and headed toward a ridge.

More than 400 homes were told to evacuate. The same area was hit last year with a fire four miles away from the current fire that destroyed 23 homes. Continue reading

Natural Causes Ruled Out In Colorado Wildfire

El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said that officials have been able to rule out lightning as the cause of the massive wildfire that has destroyed thousands of acres of woods and hundreds of homes.

Maketa said police are investigating whether or not the fire was intentionally started or an accident. He also announced that a man and woman were found dead in the garage of one of the destroyed homes. Continue reading

Colorado authorities have confirmed two deaths as a result of the massive, uncontrolled Colorado wildfires.

The blaze near Colorado Springs is already the most destructive wildfire in Colorado history. At least 360 homes have been destroyed northeast of the city and the fire is considered only 5 percent contained. Continue reading

Colorado Scorched By Wildfires

Three major wildfires are ravaging Colorado, forcing the evacuation of thousands including a prison, and threatening a world record bridge.

The first fire, over 300 acres, is burning near the Royal Gorge Bridge over the Colorado River. The bridge is the highest suspension bridge in the world at 956 feet. Hundreds of people have been evacuated from the area and the park surrounding the bridge area. Continue reading

Record Australian Heat Feeds Bushfires

Sydney, Australia set another temperature record on Friday reaching 115 degrees as a massive heat wave continues to feed bushfires across the continent. Some regions outside the city reported temperatures higher than Sydney.

One man died from being caught by a bushfire fed by dried vegetation due to the drought and heat wave. State police found the man’s body inside his burned out vehicle. They speculate he was trying to flee the flames. Continue reading

Wildfires Causing Further Economic Strain For Greece

Greece, already under extreme financial pressure, is facing a major blow to several agricultural industries due to a major wildfire raging on the island of Chios.

The fire began on Saturday and has been driven by gale force winds. The out of control blaze has burned over 16,000 acres of forest and farmland. Residents of nine villages have been evacuated due to the blaze. Continue reading
