A new report from a United Nations investigative panel has found atrocities in North Korea that the panel compared to crimes committed by Nazi Germany.
The report said that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered women kidnapped from China to be strapped to a table and injected with abortion drugs. He also ordered women who had infants to drown them or smother them in his presence if there was any possibility the children were fathered by Chinese nationals.
“The gravity, scale and nature of these violations reveal a state that does not have any parallel in the contemporary world,” the U.N. Commission on Inquiry wrote in a 372-page report.
The Commission took the unprecedented step of warning the North Korean leader that he could be tried for crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court for his actions.
The forced abortions were part of a campaign by Kim Jong Un to create a “pure Korean race” and that any child which is not purely North Korean is “contamination of ‘pureness’.”
The report also found multiple “secret” prison camps where hundreds of thousands of North Koreans and kidnapped people from South Korea or Japan were executed.
A Manhattan chef is unable to speak after three hours of surgery to wire his jaw shut after being attacked in Philadelphia.
The New York Daily News reports that 30-year-old Diego Moya is the latest victim of the “Knockout Game.”
Moya was returning to his hotel to pack for a return trip to New York when he was attacked. His nose was broken in multiple places and his jaw shattered. The attackers fled leaving him unconscious on the front steps at about 11 p.m.
“Ate dinner with friends and on my way back to hostel got pizza. As I walked down the alley I was hit from behind. Nothing was stolen from me which leads me to believe this was that ‘game.’ I hope I’m the last person this happens to,” Moya told the Daily News.
Police said that a group of six to eight men attacked him ranging in age from 16 to 21.
Moya will be unable to work for four weeks while his jaw is wired shut so the bones can heal.
A Tucson couple is behind bars facing criminal charges related to keeping three teen girls prisoners inside the home for over two years.
Fernando and Sophia Richter are facing kidnapping and child abuse charges for their actions against the girls aged 17, 13 and 12.
Police say the two younger girls were able to escape through their bedroom window and reach a neighbor’s house for help. The girls had not seen their sister in two years because they were imprisoned in separate rooms so they didn’t even know if she was still alive.
The police report says the girls were kept in the rooms where the ducts had been covered by tape and doors and windows sealed with towels to keep sound inside. They were subjected to music or the sound of static at high volume 24 hours a day. The volume of the music was so high the 17-year-old girl could not even hear the police raiding the home until they opened the bedroom door.
The girls told police they received one meal a day that was usually a noodle goulash. They had not been allowed to bathe in six months and because the parents would not let them out to use the bathroom had to use bags kept in closets. The rooms also had video surveillance where they were recorded 24 hours a day.
Google executives have said the search giant will block searches for child pornography.
In addition, the company says they have been reporting to authorities anyone they find who has been posting pictures of child sexual abuse to the web. The evidence handed over by Google has been used in multiple convictions of abusers.
The changes to Google’s search algorithm are also being applied to 150 different languages in an attempt to combat the sharing of child pornography worldwide. The company is also putting warnings at the top of pages where people search for illegal images that the images violate international law and advice on where to seek help.
Engineers at YouTube are also working on a system that will automatically identify videos with children being abused so they can be immediately flagged by the search engine.
In addition, Google is funding internships at both the Internet Watch Foundation and the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help those groups track down child abusers.
Two brothers in Telford, England have been convicted of multiple charges related to trafficking of young girls. Ahdel and Mubarek Ali were convicted of 25 of 26 charges including controlling child prostitution and trafficking girls.
The crimes happened from March 2008 to December 2009. Four teenagers from Telford were kept by the brothers and forced to work as prostitutes or be abused by friends of the brothers. One teenager was sold by Mubarek Ali when she was four months pregnant. Continue reading →
