ISIS Threatens New York City in Latest Video; World Report Says Boko Haram Deadlier Than ISIS

The latest propaganda video that ISIS has posted online warns of an impending attack on New York City.

According to CNN, the video mentions Time Square and shows an explosive device being built and a bomber putting on a jacket over a suicide belt. CBS News adds that the video featured clips of French President Francois Hollande speaking after the attacks on Paris while the terrorists make remarks in the video.

Additional members of the NYPD’s newest anti-terrorism squad have been deployed throughout the Big Apple as a precaution.

“While some of the video footage is not new, the video reaffirms the message that New York City remains a top terrorist target,” a statement of the NYPD read. “While there is no current or specific threat to the city at this time, we will remain at a heightened state of vigilance and will continue to work with the FBI, the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the entire intelligence community to keep the city of New York safe.”

However, Mayor Bill de Blasio urged citizens to continue going about their normal business and not to give into fear.

“The people of New York City will not be intimidated,” he said late Wednesday, according to CNN. “We understand it is the goal of terrorists to intimidate and disrupt our democratic society. We will not submit to their wishes.”

Police officials stated that this video was nothing new as ISIS released a similar video back in April. They realize that New York City continues to be a target for terrorist organizations. However, they assured news agencies that they are taking note of the video.

Along with the latest video, Reuters reports that ISIS also released a photo on Wednesday, showing in their official magazine how they brought down the Russian airliner over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula last month, killing all 224 people on board. The photo shows a Schweppes soft drink along with a detonator and other bomb components.

In other ISIS related news, a world report by the Institute for Economics and Peace stated that Boko Haram is a deadlier terrorist organization than ISIS, according to multiple news agencies including NPR and the Huffington Post. Out of the 32,000 people killed by terrorism in 2014, Boko Haram was responsible for 6,644 of those deaths, more than any other terrorist group. The Islamic State killed around 6,000 people in 2014. Together, the two organizations are responsible for 51% of all claimed terrorist attacks in 2014, and the majority of deaths came from the few nations of Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Syria. Nigeria experienced a 300% increase in terrorist attacks in 2014. In the past, Boko Haram has claimed to be a branch of ISIS.

Explosion in Nigerian Market Kills 32, Wounds 80; Boko Haram Suspected

Tuesday night a blast struck a market in the northeastern Nigerian city of Yola, killing 32 people and wounding 80 others according to the Red Cross and national Emergency Management Agency.  The explosion struck after dark at a fruit and vegetable market beside a main road.  

There has not been an immediate claim for the blast but it has major characteristics of the Islamist group Boko Haram which has killed thousands of people over the last six years in it’s campaign to turn Nigeria into a strict Islamic state.  

According to many news reports, Tuesday night’s bombings break a three-week break in violence after a string of suicide attacks resulted in twin explosions in mosques in two northeastern cities that killed 42 people and wounded more than 100 on Oct. 23.

One of the mosques attacked was in Yola, capital of Adamawa state, where the insurgents struck again. It was the third suicide bombing in as many months in a city overflowing with some of the 2.3 million refugees driven from their homes by the Islamic uprising.

The militants have focused attacks on markets, bus stations and places of worship, as well as hit-and-run attacks on villages since losing most of the territory they took over earlier this year to the Nigerian army.  

In a report by CBS news, Nigeria’s military has reported foiling several suicide bombers recently, and killing and capturing insurgents as it destroys Boko Haram camps in air raids and ground attacks.

“The enemies of humanity will never win. Hand in hand, we will rid our land of terrorism,” Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari said in a tweet.

Nigerian Troops Rescue over 300 People from Boko Haram

Nigerian forces have claimed to have rescued 338 people held by Boko Haram Islamists. Those rescued are mainly women and children

“The rescued persons which comprised eight males, 138 females and 192 children, have since been evacuated,” said military spokesman Sani Usman to Reuters, adding that 30 suspected militants had been killed..

It was not made clear if any of the 236 schoolgirls kidnapped last year in northeastern Chibok were among those rescued.

In May, President Muhammadu Buhari, came to power in Nigeria on a pledge to crush Boko Haram. He has given his military commanders until the end of December to defeat the group, whose insurgency has killed at least 17,000 people and forced more than 2.5 million to flee their homes since 2009.

The Boco’s remaining stronghold, the vast Sambisa forest reserve, has become hard to penetrate due to widespread landmines laid by the militant group.
In the last few months the military has ramped up its offensive into the Sambisa and surrounding areas with air strikes and an increase in ground troops.
The freed hostages have been moved to a camp for displaced persons in Mubi in nearby Adamawa state.

U.S. Deploys Troops in Cameroon to Fight Boko Haram

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama announced that 300 U.S. troops have been deployed in Cameroon to fight against the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram.

Obama wrote a letter to Congress stating that the soldiers would provide “intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance” in the region and work with West African soldiers. Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, stated that the troops will be armed for self defense purposes and will not engage in combat.

On Monday, an advance force of 90 troops were sent to Cameroon, a country that borders Nigeria. Officials said that the troops will also have unarmed Predator drones that will aid the multinational task force made up of soldiers from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Benin, and Nigeria.

Until now, the U.S. has been giving Nigerian forces equipment and providing training for their soldiers as an effort to help defeat Boko Haram. The Islamic terrorist group has destroyed many villages in Niger, Chad, Nigeria, and Cameroon. The violence by Boko Haram has left 17,000 people dead since 2009 when the attacks began, according to Amnesty International. UNICEF also reported that 1.4 million children have been displaced by Boko Haram in Nigeria and neighboring countries.

Boko Haram claims to be a part of the Islamic State, but it is unclear if the two groups have coordinated their attacks.

U.N. Claims 1.4 Million Children Have Fled Boko Haram

The United Nations says that over 1.4 million children have fled Nigeria and surrounding countries to try and escape Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram.

UNICEF says that 1.2 million Nigerian children have fled from the northern part of the country and around 265,000 children have fled border towns in Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

“It’s truly alarming to see that children and women continue to be killed, abducted and used to carry bombs,” said Manuel Fontaine, the UNICEF regional director for West and Central Africa.

UNICEF also reported on their efforts to help those children. The report stated:

  • Over 315,000 children have been vaccinated against measles;
  • More than 200,000 people have received access to safe water;
  • Almost 65,000 displaced and refugee children have had access to education and are able to continue their learning thanks to the delivery of school materials;
  • Nearly 72,000 displaced children have received counselling and psychosocial support;
  • Almost 65,000 children under 5 have received treatment for severe acute malnutrition.

The U.N. officials also focused on Boko Haram’s targeting of women and girls in their terror assaults and kidnappings.

“Women and girls are involved in approximately three-quarters of the attacks,” she said. And children are “used, often without knowing, to carry bombs that were strapped to their bodies and detonated remotely in public places.”

United Nations Confirms ISIS Selling Young Girls as Sex Slaves

The United Nations has officially confirmed something long believed among opponents of Islamic terrorist group ISIS:  they are selling girls under 10 as sex slaves for as little as $165.

Zainab Bangura, the UN’s Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sexual Violence in Conflict, confirmed the document first reportedly found in November 2014 is legitimate and being used by the terrorists.

“The girls get peddled like barrels of petrol,” she told Bloomberg. “One girl can be sold and bought by five or six different men. Sometimes these fighters sell the girls back to their families for thousands of dollars of ransom.”

Bangura said that girls from ages 1 to 9 are being sold for $165.  Girls in their teens fell to $124 and women over 40 sell for as little as $41.

“They have a machinery; they have a program,” said Bangura. “They have a manual on how you treat these women. They have a marriage bureau which organizes all of these ‘marriages’ and the sale of women. They have a price list.”

“It’s not an ordinary rebel group,” she added. “When you dismiss them as such, then you are using the tools you are used to. This is different. They have the combination of a conventional military and a well-run organized state.”

ISIS has already released a document claiming the buying and selling of women is acceptable under the Koran.  The claim by ISIS reportedly comes after taking the idea of selling women from Islamic terror group Boko Haram in Nigeria.

Nigerian Soldiers Free 71 Women From Boko Haram

A major action by the Nigerian military against the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram as resulted in the freedom of 71 girls and women who had been held captive by the terror group.

Some of the women had been in the control of the terrorists for a year.

Close to 30 people were saved in a raid on Tuesday, with the remainder freed during an assault on two jihadist camps in Borno on Wednesday.  The camps were about 22 miles southeast of the Borno state capital of Maiduguri.

Army spokesman Tukur Gusau said a number of terrorists were killed during the military raid.

The army has been focusing on raids that will free hostages in light of many of the hostages being forced into suicide terror attacks.  Suicide bomber attacks spurred by Boko Haram have killed 47 people in the last week.

The group has also increased their campaigns of terror, killing 830 in just two months.

However, Nigeria’s military spokesman said a new multi-national group fighting the terrorists is about to go into service.

“Any moment from now, the operations or the Task Force will be manifest. In other words, we may not tell you (when it will commence), you will just see it,” Nigeria’s military spokesman Major General Chris Olukolade told AFP, who declined to give further details for strategic reasons.

Boko Haram Suspected of Bombs That Killed 64 During Muslim Celebration

Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram is believed to have continued to follow the call of ISIS leadership to conduct attacks during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan by killing 64 people in multiple bomb attacks.

Two female suicide bombers killed 12 people at two prayer grounds in Damaturu.  People were in the area preparing for the end of Ramadan at the site of the attack.

Nigerian Army Col. Sani Usman said one of the bombers was a 10-year-old girl.

“The first blast went off around 07:15 local time (06:15 GMT) while security volunteers who had come earlier than worshippers were waiting for the worshippers so they could assist in crowd control,” added eye witness Ahmad Adamu, a security volunteer.

A few hours earlier two other bombers killed 50 people who were buying groceries for the end of the holiday at a market in Gombe.

Officials confirmed at least other 75 people were wounded and were in two separate hospitals for treatment.

The group has killed over 300 people this month.

Chibok Pastor “Grateful” Daughter Stoned By Islamists Didn’t Deny Christ

A Nigerian pastor whose daughter was stoned to death by the Islamic group Boko Haram says that he is “grateful” to know that she stood up for Christ until the end.

“I was told that my daughter refused to change her religion. I was told that they dug a hole and buried her from the neck and stoned her to death,” Pastor Enoch Mark said.  “To die for the sake of Christ, that’s the happiest thing for me. I’m grateful that she didn’t change her religion. She trust[ed] in God.”

Pastor Mark was told of his daughter’s martyrdom by a 17-year-old girl named Miriam who escaped from her captors.

“I believe she died with dignity. Monica is now in heaven because she refused to convert,” Pastor Mark’s wife told the BBC.

The girl who told the pastor is one of the girls that informed western leaders that Boko Haram is forcing the kidnapped girls to carry out killings and bombings.  Miriam told the BBC that they were trained to kill on captured Christians.

“They were Christian men. They [Boko Haram militants] forced the Christians to lie down. Then the girls cut their throats.”

Day of Violence in Nigeria Leaves 60 Dead

Islamic terrorists launched a day of violence in Nigeria against both Christians and Muslims on Sunday leaving more than 60 dead.

Boko Haram bombed a crowded mosque and Muslim restaurant in the city of Jos.  Muslim community lawyer Ahmed Garba told Fox News that 51 people died in the twin attacks and were buried on Monday.  An additional 67 were wounded and remain hospitalized.

A witness said that the bomber at the mosque appeared to be targeting cleric Sani Yahaya.

“He is a great Islamic scholar who has spoken out against Boko Haram, and that is why we believe he was the target,” Danladi Sani told The Associated Press.

The terrorists also attacked an evangelical Christian church in Potiskum along with a campaign of arson against villages that burned over 300 homes.

Boko Haram has ramped up violence in response to a call by ISIS terrorists for increased activity during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the attacks and said that he will protect the rights of Nigerians to freely worship.

In the last week the terrorist group has killed over 300 people.
