The weekly devotions on this page are written by our staff, volunteers and those involved in intercessory prayer ministry. We are grateful for their contribution and heart after God.

A new devotion will be posted every Monday.

Give Thanks!

Sharon Couchman

Thanksgiving has come and gone but giving thanks is never outdated.  Whether you are thanking someone for a special gift, or if someone opens a door for you, giving thanks is always appropriate.  Even the world often acknowledges that being thankful is a key to happiness.

As Christians we have even more to be thankful for than those who don’t know the Lord.  During this Thanksgiving and Christmas season, let’s resolve to continually give thanks to the Lord.  Begin 2015 determined to always give God praise and thanks for who He is and what He has done.  As we do this it changes our outlook and affects those around us for the better. Thy Kingdom Come

Carol Gonterman

I don’t know how many times you folks out there have poured out this scripture in prayer to our Lord: “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done – on earth as it is in Heaven!”

Lately that scripture has been coming up in my soul.  Whether the news is great, or not so great, I’m aware of  Holy Spirit being right there with me.

Last week I got an emergency phone call.  My daughter-in-law called to tell me that my son, Tom, recently had an MRI and it revealed there was a hole in his heart.  He had to immediately go to the hospital and have emergency surgery.  Continue reading

God Is

Clete Snellenberger

Psalm 46:1 “God is (not has been) our Refuge and Strength, a very present help in time of need.”

I love His Word and especially this verse as it has many principles and promises.

  • First: God is and will be our Refuge (a place of safety.)
  • Second: God is and will be our Strength (ability to keep going.)
  • Third: God is and will be a very present help in time of need.

Our Heavenly Father knew we would have many problems and spiritual trials in this world.  He said in John 16:33, “In this world you will have tribulations, testings and trials:  but, be of good cheer:  I have overcome the world.”

He said in Psalm 34:19:  “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.”

Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shall go:  I will guide thee with mine eye!”

Believing in a God who only loves, but is not in control, is not a God worth worshipping and obeying.  Our God is good and has a plan and purpose for each of us.  God is love and is in control.  Ephesians 1:4

St. Augustine once said: “God loves every man as though there were no one else to love.  God also prepares every man, who is willing to listen, as though there were no one else to do His work.”

Again, Psalm 46:1:  God is!!

We need to not just know ABOUT God, but rather, to really KNOW Him personally.  Also, we need not to just hear ABOUT God but to really HEAR His Voice for ourselves.

John 10:3,4 says:  “He calleth His own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.”  Verse 4 – “For they KNOW His Voice.”

Again GOD IS:

  • A Refuge: A place of safety and shelter in time of trouble.
  • Strength: In II Corinthians 12:9 the Lord said to Paul, “My Grace is sufficient for thee; for My Strength is made perfect in weakness.”  Paul received this word and responded in verse 10 “For then when I am weak, then I am strong.”
  • A very present help in time of need: John 14:26

He is our Strength.

He is our Comfort.

He is our Helper.

He is our Counselor.

He is our Intercessor.

He is our Advocate.

He is our Standby.

As the scripture has stated in John 14:26, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to represent Himself, on His behalf and He will teach you all things and will by revelation recall and bring back to remembrance all He is and has done!!

Oh, What a Savior!!

Entering Into Peace

Isaiah 9:6 KJV — “And His Name shall be called…Prince of Peace.”

This not only reveals that Jesus overflows with peace, but that all in His Kingdom are called to be of the same peacefully flowing spirit.

Isaiah 66:12 KJV —   “I will extend peace to her like a river…”

Matthew 23:37 — “…as He longed to gather Jerusalem as a hen gathers her chicks so He wants us to rest contentedly under His wings.”

God deeply desires that no one be hurt, fearful or worried in His Kingdom.   He desires for His people to fiercely protect and maintain their peace and confidence in Him.  And, as we keep our minds on Him, Jesus keeps us in perfect peace.  Isaiah 26:3. Continue reading

Heaven’s 9-1-1

Sharon Couchman

During this memorial week of 9/11 we are reminded of the devastation that thrust our nation into panic in 2001.  Fear and shock gripped the hearts of Americans and the world on that day.  We watched in horror as we saw the twin towers fall and survivors fleeing for their lives.

So this week especially, keep the families who lost loved ones and the survivors in your hearts and prayers.  Please join us in praying for the safety and protection of our nation and leaders.

In the midst of all the world’s turmoil, wars and rumors of wars, it is difficult not to be concerned about future events.  Prophecies will be fulfilled, but God is still our Refuge and Protector.  He watches over us. Continue reading
