What is happening in Turkey? Joel Richardson returning to Morningside!

With all that is happening in Turkey and the Middle East today, it is difficult to stay on top of the players and how these countries’ actions are fitting within the prophecies of the Bible.  That is why we are thrilled to have Joel Richardson returning here Monday, July 25th and the 26th at 7:00pm for The Prophets Speak program as well as taping of The Jim Bakker Show Tuesday, July 26th beginning at noon!  

We trust Joel Richardson and his well researched, hands-on knowledge of the Middle East and the beliefs of its people. For the last couple of years, Joel has opened our eyes and gave us an understanding of the Bible and these end days with a clarity few can offer.  He taught us a very important lesson. In order to understand events happening today to Muslims, Islamic governments and Radical Islam, you must first take a glimpse into their world.

Film-maker and internationally recognized teacher, Joel Richardson, is also the New York Times bestselling author of “The Islamic Antichrist”.  His amazing teaching on the people of the Middle East and his passion to see Jesus known throughout the region will surely inspire you. Joel travels and teaches on the Gospel, living with Biblical hope and the return of Jesus Christ.

The Prophets Speak will begin at 7:00pm and will be available on our live stream.  The Jim Bakker Show will begin taping at noon. This taping will not be live streamed but you will be able to see it on Roku, Apple TV, and on the Video on Demand section of our website on the same day it airs on television. If you are in the area we hope you can become a member of our studio audience! Admission is always free to the public!

What will happen next in Turkey?  We believe our next best clue will come from Joel Richardson!

Pastor Ramiro Peña Prays with Congressmen and U.S. Leaders at Hispanic Leaders Luncheon

Amidst the thousands of people and hundreds of organizations gathered in Cleveland for the Republican National Convention, The Jim Bakker Show and Morningside were quite proud to hear that Pastor Ramiro Peña was asked to give the opening prayer at a luncheon for the Hispanic Leaders Luncheon today in Cleveland.

This luncheon event celebrated the contributions of Hispanics in the world of business and the greater Latino community.  The event also took time to honor prominent individuals who have made a difference not only to the Latino community but to their individual states and communities.  It is the hope of the Latino Coalition, hosts of this luncheon, that the people who attended this afternoon event were educated, inspired and able to remind leaders that Latinos are one of the fastest growing demographic group in the United States.  

 

Pastor Peña’s opening prayer was filled with grace, gratitude and hope, just as we have come to know and expect from this wonderful man of God.

The Prophets Speak – Every night of the week

Morningside’s new and exciting special evening program  “The Prophets Speak” is now scheduled for 6:30 p.m every night, Monday through Sunday.  These are an exclusive broadcast of teachers, evangelists, healers, gospel musical guests and leaders of the church who have been invited to share their prophetic word with their gifts from God.   

Prophets hold the gift of Spirit and share those gifts in unique and powerful ways.  Their messages must be shared throughout our churches, in our neighborhoods and spread throughout with the world.  The Prophets Speak series reaches out to all, breaking down diversity and embracing the love of Christ one message at a time, strengthening our Family of God.

Joel Richardson – What is happening in Turkey?

Joel Richardson, author of The Islamic Antichrist is who we turn to here at Morningside when trying to understand the vast and complicated world of the Middle East.  As the dust settled in Turkey, we were attempting to understand what was happening.  We waited for Joel to comment knowing that he had foreseen what was coming long ago.  Today, we were not disappointed.

In his response, called ” The Second Fall of Constantinople”  Joel began,

“Whether we are speaking of the role of the nations in last days biblical prophecy, or merely analyzing current Middle East geopolitics from a secular perspective, understanding what is presently unfolding in Turkey is absolutely critical.”

If you are paying attention to news reports, Erdogan’s response is surprising to some and  exactly what was expected by others.  This article explains the history and dynamics of the government found inside of Turkey, and the insurgence of Islam into every nook and cranny.  This article explains the United States and their roles in what now could be one of the most dangerous Islamic nation known.

Life Size Noah’s Ark opens; GM addresses ‘Freedom From Religion’ protests

On July 6th, with thousands of guests and media in attendance, the impressive ‘Ark Encounter’ opened its massive doors and another historic vision of Ken Ham, founder, president and CEO of Answers in Genesis (AIG) came to life.  The first of the AIG projects, the Creation Museum, a state-of-the-art 75,000-square-foot museum that brings the pages of the Bible to life, was opened in 2007 and has seen more than 2.5 million visitors.  

In a press conference, Ham addressed the crowd and spoke to the importance of a family-oriented, historically authentic and environmentally friendly attraction.

“In a world that is becoming increasingly secularized and biased, it’s time for Christians to do something of this size and this magnitude,’ said Ham.

The Ark Encounter is America’s newest, large theme park, and the one of a kind, life size, 510 foot-long Noah’s Ark is the centerpiece and considered to be the largest free-standing timber-frame building in the world.  This Ark was build to full scale on the dimensions provided in the Bible. (Genesis 6) using the Hebrew long cubit (cubit- an ancient measurement of length based on distance from the elbow to the fingertips)  and in accordance with sound, established nautical, engineering practices of the ancient era.

To give you an idea of the size of this structure, NASA could lay 3 space shuttles nose to tail on the ark’s roof and the height is taller than a modern four story building.

The ark has opened to much praise, but also has it’s critics saying that the attraction will be detrimental to science education.  The Freedom from Religion Foundation, (FRFF) concerned about school field trips to the exhibit, say that ark field trips would expose children to religious proselytizing in violation of the constitutional separation of church and state.  

Ham noted at the opening press conference that with the Ark Encounter, “the research indicates a large percentage – maybe 40 percent or more – will be non-Christians. People from all over the world have heard of Noah’s Ark.” Ham added, “I believe you’re going to find all sorts of people from all walks of life with all sorts of religious backgrounds who are going to come here. And even if they don’t share our biblical view, they can’t help but be impressed by the structure, craftsmanship and by the attention to detail of the world-class exhibits inside. And who knows? Maybe they’ll be challenged to even talk about the Bible.”

In his blog, Ken Ham responded to the “bullying” tactics of the FRFF on schools.  He was speaking to a published press release by the FFRF that stated they would be advising public schools in more than 1000 school districts against visiting the theme park and remind them of their constitutional obligations.  

Ham responded, “Actually, FFRF is undermining or encouraging the violation of the First Amendment by bullying school districts with this threat. (Their usual threatening technique is to try to intimidate people to do what FFRF wants—not what the Constitution of the United States of America guarantees!)

On the basis of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, public schools are absolutely free to take students on field trips (with appropriate parental permissions) to facilities like the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum, provided they are for historical, recreational, or educational purposes. FFRF has no right (and no legal basis whatsoever) to intimidate public schools as they are trying to do in this letter sent to more than 1,000 schools.”

The Center for Religious Expression also spoke directly with Ham stating:  

“Once again, FFRF is wrong. Public schools are free to take students on field trips to any place they find educationally beneficial, which can include parks, museums, and even churches, that have religious connotations. The Constitution demands the state be neutral—not hostile—toward religion. To deny students the unique opportunity to see and experience a full-scale model of Noah’s Ark—just because its existence is described in the Bible—would be decidedly hostile.”

In response to the FFRF letter that has been sent to school districts, Kentucky Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt sent a message to school districts Monday saying that “neither outside groups nor state education officials should dictate field trip selection. A school’s site-based decision-making council approves trips.”  

The Ark Encounter is an immersive, historically themed experience for the whole family focused on having fun while learning about history. It is not an amusement park. It features a number of daily live performances, as well as live special events. It also includes “edu-tainment” aspects – educational and entertaining experiences – within each attraction. More than 125,000 square feet of world-class exhibits can be explored along the Ark’s three decks.

What led to the Deadliest Attack on police officers since 9/11?

Dallas Police respond after shots were fired at a Black Lives Matter rally in downtown Dallas

What led to the ambush of Police officers and the death of five police officers who were standing guard during a peaceful protest in Dallas? What caused this tragedy? What will be the answer to these kinds of violent attacks? The factors are numerous and create a storm of emotion from all sides.  

Many woke this morning with news of another shooting, another ambush, more lives lost.  In the previous days we have read about and watched on video, Facebook and television the ugly pictures of police confrontations that have led to the shootings of black men by white officers.  Black Lives Matter protests were planned in cities all over the United States because of the deaths of Philando Castile from St. Paul, Minnesota and Alton Sterling in Louisiana.  But while all other protests were violence free, a deadly plot went into effect to cause the demise of white police officers.

This ambush of police officers ended with the shooting of 12 people, 5 police officers dead and 7 wounded.  In the words of Chief of Police, David Brown, from today’s press conference in Dallas,

“All I know is that this must stop, this divisiveness between our police and our citizens.”   

Chief Brown’s words  were not directed at white or black.  He happens to be a black police officer who began his statement speaking for law enforcement of every color and race. “We are hurting, our profession is hurting, Dallas officers are hurting.  We are heartbroken.”  

At approximately 9 p.m. Thursday night shots rang into the night, picking off police officers who were standing guard at a Black Lives Matter protest. The protesters had gathered after a Minnesota officer on Wednesday fatally shot Philando Castile, 32, at a traffic stop outside St. Paul. His girlfriend, Diamond “Lavish” Reynolds, and her 4-year-old daughter were in the car with him. Reynolds live streamed the aftermath on Facebook.

A day earlier, Alton Sterling was shot in Louisiana after being pinned to the pavement by two white officers. That, too, was captured on a cellphone video.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said he and others in the police department participated in the planning of the rally and many protesters talked about how peaceful it was with police officers posing for and taking pictures with many of the protesters.  

According to Fox news, approximately 60 rounds were fired that led to chaos in the streets as citizens and officers alike frantically looked for cover.

CNN issued a report from an eyewitness, Ismael Dejesus, who was in his downtown Dallas hotel room when he heard “popping sounds.” He went to the balcony to see what was going on.

At first he thought he was hearing fireworks but then he saw someone kill a police officer.  

Dejesus, who filmed parts of the chilling exchange, told CNN that he saw the suspect get out of a Chevy Tahoe SUV wearing tactical clothing.  He had a rifle, AR-15 with a large magazine, He went over to a pillar put a magazine in and started firing.  Dejesus said that the attack looks planned, prepared and that he knew just where to stand, with ammo ready.  

The shooter was seen standing by a white pillar spraying bullets to the left and right, which Dejesus believes was to bring the police closer to him.

‘”He was trying to get a commotion going, trying to get cops’ attention.”

When one officer attempted to engage the shooter one-on-one, he was killed by multiple shots fired at point blank range.

“It looked like an execution honestly. He stood over (the officer) after he was already down and shot him maybe three to four times in the back. It was very disturbing to watch.

“He shot without any fear. He didn’t care.”

The gunfire was followed by a standoff that lasted for hours in a parking garage of a local college, with a suspect who the Dallas police chief   said had told authorities “he was upset about the recent police shootings” and “wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.” He was killed when police detonated a bomb robot.

The Associated Press identified the gunman as Micah Xavier Johnson, 25.

Reuters reported that Johnson was a member of the group “Black Panther Party Mississippi” on Facebook, which has over 200 members. Earlier this month he shared a video showing what he described as white people killing what looked like dolphins or whales.

The U.S. Army said Johnson had served as a private first class in the Army Reserve, made up of part-time soldiers, and was deployed to Afghanistan from November 2013 to July 2014. It said Johnson served from March 2009 to April 2015 and was a carpentry and masonry specialist with the 420th Engineering Brigade based in Texas.

The investigation will continue in Dallas on the shooting while the traditional debate on gun control begins.  Many sources report that after these kinds of mass shootings, gun sales surge and more Americans are buying fire arms than ever before.   

The Crime Prevention Research Center (CDRC)  an independent research and education organization has created studies over several years in which research backs a massive increase in background checks (one of the only ways to track the majority of new gun owners)  and applications for conceal and carry on firearms with all mass shootings. From these numbers, it seems that most American’s prefer to be armed and are finding the environment in the United States one in which they feel more secure in owning a gun.  

With racism still a factor in America,and the shortage of well qualified police officers whose numbers continue to dwindle, the political factions cannot seem to come together  on a plan of action.  Americans across the country are feeling a sense of helplessness,uncertainty and fear.

The understanding and answers will only come when we realize that it is not a question of whether you are black or white, a police officer or not, democrat, republican or independent;  ALL lives matter! 

As Chief Brown closed today’s press conference asking the world for prayer and consideration.

“Please join me in applauding these brave men and women who do this job under great scrutiny, under great vulnerability. Who literally risk their lives to protect our democracy. We don’t feel much support most days, let’s not make today most days. Please, we need your support to be able to protect you from men like these who carried out this tragic, tragic event. Pray for these families”

Super Typhoon Nepartak; Taiwan to take full brunt of storm

Typhoon Nepartak set to hit Taiwan and China

Until now the northwest Pacific has enjoyed the longest extended streak on record almost 200 days without a named storm.  But today, the first super typhoon of 2016 is set to hit Taiwan and China Thursday night into Friday, according to The Weather Channel.  

Considered a Category 5 equivalent tropical cyclone, with sustained winds at times of 175 mph, forecasters predict this to be the strongest Super Typhoon since Typhoon Soudelor in August of 2015. Soudelor  caused massive rains of up to 50 inches in the mountains, 3.6 million homes with no power, massive flooding, and mudslides. There were 40 confirmed deaths and hundreds injured.

According to local reports, Taiwan’s Minister of Transportation and Communications Hochen Tan was confident that Taiwan’s international airport would avoid flooding due to management having all water channels cleared of stones and dirt and water pumps ready.  Sandbags have also been placed.  Food prices have risen in anticipation of this dangerous storm.

USA Today reports that, Nepartak has seen gusts of up to 207 mph.  Taiwan’s military has mobilized thousands of troops and Premier Lin Chuan was briefed by emergency officials Wednesday morning.

A hurricane and typhoon are the same kinds of storms. West of the International Date Line these storms are called typhoons. A Super Typhoon is a storm where the sustained winds reach 150 mph.

For Taiwan, although the incredibly intense winds are dangerous, the concern for the public is mainly for flash flooding and mudslides which will threaten the most lives.

The Fourth of July is gone, but the fireworks are just beginning for Morningside Ministries.  We continue our Restoration Celebration with a new series called “Prophets Speak”, as well as new tapings with the Jim Bakker show.  

Our “Prophets Speak” series begins at 7:00 pm on scheduled nights and will be live streamed.  This thought provoking series begins tonight, July 5th here on Grace Street with Bishop Ron Webb.  Wednesday, July 6th, we welcome Gary Heavin followed by Joel Richardson on Thursday, July 7th.  Friday night our own Jim Bakker Show co-host Zach Drew will be speaking at 7:00 p.m.   Next week for our “Prophets Speak” series we will welcome Rev. Ramiro Peña on Weds. July 13.  Every “Prophets Speak”  evening will be preceded by some amazing Worship on Grace Street at 6:30 p.m.  

Jim and Lori Bakker welcome radio host and author Steve Quayle and will be joined by Gary Heavin on The Jim Bakker Show, Thursday, July 7th.  

Thursday, July 14th,  Rev. Ramiro Peña will join the Bakkers.  The Jim Bakker show begins taping at noon with free admission.  The Jim Bakker Show  will not be available on our live feed, however, you can view it before it airs on TV on Roku, Apple TV and the Video On Demand section of our website. The “Prophets Speak” series will be available on our live feed so stay tuned for additional inspirational speakers to be announced.

Five states issue health advisories for beaches, Florida declares emergency from Toxic Algae

Five states have issued health advisories and have closed beaches ahead of the 4th of July holiday weekend.  According to an article from The Weather Channel,  officials in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi and Alabama report that bacteria levels are high and “no swim” orders have been issued for many beaches along these states. None of these advisories are related to the Vibrio bacteria, commonly referred to as “flesh eating bacteria.”

Texas has 15 beaches with high or medium levels of bacteria, Louisiana with a dozen under advisory, Mississippi and Alabama each with one.  Florida issued a “no swim” order for eight beaches along the coast due to bacteria and toxic algae.  Florida Gov. Rick Scott has declared an emergency due to bright blue-green algae blooms taking over waterways and beaches. The executive order allows state and local governments to take action against the spread of the algal blooms by redirecting the water flow in and out of Lake Okeechobee.

The algae forced Treasure Coast officials to close some beaches in Martin County (insert link)  this week, just days before the Fourth of July holiday weekend and has been spotted in waterways and canals across much of South Florida.

“It’s just been incubating and growing and growing,” Matt Athan, who lives near the St. Lucie River in Stuart, told WPBF. And you can see how thick it is. And the smell is just atrocious.”

Experts also said the toxins in the algae can easily sicken and kill animals, so owners should keep their pets away from the water.  

It is strongly advised by experts to stay clear of the water if an advisory is up or if a beach has been closed.  Stay aware and look for signs for a safe holiday!
