One in Four Greece Citizens Unemployed

Unemployment in Greece reached 1 in 4 adults for the first time in the nation’s history according to figures released today.

Greece’s statistical authority reported that the country lost 1,000 jobs a day over the last year. Over 1.26 million citizens were without a job in July. Government budget cuts and a deepening recession ahead for the next year was likely to increase that number. Continue reading

Eurozone Unemployment At Record High

On the same day that Italy’s prime minister proclaimed he could see a “light at the end of the tunnel” for the Eurozone debt crisis reports surfaced that the unemployment rate is at a record high.

Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti met with French President Francois Hollande in Paris for discussions on the euro. Hollande agreed their had been “significant progress” in recent weeks and that the euro should be “defended, preserved and consolidated.” Continue reading

Bad Economic News For US and Eurozone

The US economy’s unemployment rate increased slightly in April while the Eurozone’s held steady at a record high level.

The news sent all the US stock markets plunging lower in morning trading. The jobless rate in the US increased to 8.2%, up .1%, according to the Labor Department report. The number of jobs added in March and April was revised down by 49,000 and there are now five million fewer jobs in the US than at the start of the recession. Continue reading
