Greg Laurie: U.S. Needs Israel More Than They Need Us

California pastor Greg Laurie told the thousands at Harvest Church and the millions around the world watching online that America needs Israel more than the other way around in a lesson on the end times.

Laurie said that Israel is at the eye of the hurricane when it comes to the great events of the end times and Jesus made it very clear that Israel is beloved of God.  He added those who bless Israel will be looked upon favorably by the Lord.

“One of the reasons God has blessed the United States is because of our support to Israel. … America needs Israel more than Israel needs America … because we need the blessing of God,” the pastor said.

Laurie reminded the parishioners that the Bible is the only book that clearly outlines what is going to happen in the end times.

“The Bible is the one book that dares to predict the future … with 100 percent accuracy,” he said, adding that about 30 percent of the Bible is prophecy, and that God wants us to know these prophecies. “The more we know about the next world, the better we’ll live in this one.”

Idaho Republicans Pass Resolution On Bible Use in School

Republicans in Idaho have passed a resolution that would allow the Bible to be used in schools as a reference material.

David Johnston of the Republican Party told KBOI-TV Boise the Bible would be used in multiple subjects just like any textbook.

“I don’t see it as a forcing upon anybody or interfering with it,” said Johnston. “Whether it be geography, history, literature or frankly just the study of the world religions; if there is a school district that thinks having the Bible as part of the curriculum would be useful, this resolution is basically saying, ‘we support the idea of allowing them to have that tool in their tool box.'”

The resolution notes that the Supreme Court has ruled the Bible can be used for historical purposes in schools.

“[T]he use of the Bible for literary and historic value is consistent with the 1st amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1963 case of Abington School District v. Schempp declared that the Bible is worth studying for its literary qualities and its influence on history,” it states. “[I]n 1980, the Supreme Court ruling of Stone v. Braham stated that ‘the Bible can constitutionally be used in an appropriate study of history, civilization, ethics, comparative religion, or the like.’”

No schools would be required to use the Bible, but it would be available as a resource.

Party leaders hope that one of their legislators will turn the resolution into a bill for next year’s legislative session.

Bully Repents After Being Given Bible

A pair of elementary school children used the Bible to get a bully to change his ways.

Phoenix Walywyn, 8, and her brother Kingston, 7, were being bullied on their school bus and were becoming very angry because of the constant taunting and harassment.  Phoenix says that the bully would call them names and try to make them get drawn into physical confrontations.

“It made me feel like I wanted to yell at him,” Phoenix Walwyn said.

“I wanted to say (something) back to him,” Kingston Walwyn said.

The children’s parents met with school administrators and things stopped for a few weeks before the bully began again with name calling.

The children’s father Vaughaligan is the pastor of CT Legacy Church in Pasadena.  He said that he was about to confront the bully on his own because the school’s action was not enough to make the child stop harassing his children.  Then, as he was praying for God to give him a solution, an idea flashed into his head.

“God said, ‘You know what? Let’s get this kid a Bible. Tell him Jesus loves him and invite him to church and see what happens.’”, Pastor Walywyn said.

The children gave the bully a Bible and within minutes the bully came over and apologized for everything that he had done to them.  The bully hadn’t harassed the children in any way since they gave him the Bible.

Two Men Quote Bible From Memory To Raise Nepal Relief

Two men are quoting the Bible from memory in a 24 hour marathon in an effort to raise funds for relief efforts in Nepal.

Tom Meyer and Jason Nightingale of the ministry Wordsowers International began at noon Wednesday with a goal of all 100 percent of the raised monies going to help those who have been devastated by the Nepal earthquake.

“We have done similar events in the past but none of them have been streamlined online before. We tell the Bible as the sermon from memory weekly as a full-time ministry,” Meyer told the Christian Post.

Visitors to the campus of Shasta Bible College in Redding, California were also welcomed to watch the event taking place.

The group was inspired in part by the call for support from the United Nations.

“The United Nations estimates that more than 3 million people are in need of food assistance — and nearly half of those need it immediately. Emergency funding of $415 million is needed,” reported CNN.

“[Nepal Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat] said the quake had completely or partially destroyed nearly 300,000 houses.”

Writing On Pottery Corroborates Jeremiah

A group of archaeologists have reported the discovery of writing on pottery shards which confirm the Biblical writings in Jeremiah.

The writing was found on pottery dating back to the First Temple Era.  The language used is Paelo-Hebrew, the language of ancient Israel.  The items in the largest collection of the First Temple era pottery dates back to 8 B.C.

“Among the personal names are those of the priestly families Pashur and Meremoth, both mentioned in the Bible. (Jeremiah 20:1; Ezra 8:33) Some of the letters were addressed to the commander of the citadel of Arad, Eliashiv ben Ashiyahu, and deal with the distribution of bread (flour), wine and oil to the soldiers serving in the fortresses of the Negev,” the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained. “Also, in one of the letters, the ‘house of YHWH’ is mentioned.”

“Scholars suggest that the King of Arad mentioned in the Bible was in fact the ruler of the Kingdom of Arad, ‘the Negev of Arad’ (Judges 1:16), whose capital was another city,” it adds.

The items were first discovered in 2000 and studies of the items are finding new writings and materials dating the items to Biblical times.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz published a report last week saying the scholars had found the Jeremiah communications.

“Scholars have taken this as a confirmation of the biblical narrative of Jeremiah, which recounts that Azekah and Lachish were the last fortresses of Judah to fall before Jerusalem was besieged and destroyed by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II,” the publication explains.

The Scripture referenced is Jeremiah 34:7, which reads, “When the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah: for these defensed cities remained of the cities of Judah.”

The scientists who continue the study of the items are based at Tel Aviv University.

Get Into The Word!

Ever since God opened up door for me to minister to others, I have said that there are 3 different types of people who read the Word.  There are the surface readers that simply, casually read it.  They don’t really get into it but they can basically follow along.

Then there are the second kind of people who really get into the Word, finding out more about the Word, the time periods, where Jesus actually walked etc.. This certainly can be a fun place to be!   But then there are a very special category of people.  These types of people are not satisfied with the mainline Christianity but want to dive into the supernatural realm. FFRF Get “Bible Man” Banned From Schools

Presentations in a Tennessee school district from a character called “Bible Man” have been banned thanks to a complaint from a virulent anti-religion organization.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) made one of their usual claims that a parent they would not identify contacted them about the voluntary assemblies put on by Horace Turner as “Bible Man.”  The assemblies, which have been going on for 40 years, are not required of any student.

“It is deeply troubling that the district allows these assemblies to take place. It is well settled that public schools may not advance or promote religion,” the letter, which pertained to a presentation at Coalmont Elementary School, stated. “Allowing anyone access to public school students to proselytize, and including the events in the school’s calendar, is illegal district endorsement of the speaker’s religious message, in this case a Christian message.”

The letter when on to say that the children need to be protected from “predators” like Turner.

The school wanted to make it clear that while the “Bible Man” presentations are banned, Turner himself is not banned from being at the schools or working with children.

“I believe the perception was that we’re trying to get rid of him, and that was not the perception we wanted to present,” Dr. Willie Childers stated. “We are trying to make sure that the procedures that we do are legal and constitutional for every citizen.”

The school is looking into starting after-school clubs where students can come and participate in events hosted by Turner.

Bible Not Available In 57% of World Languages

The recent State of the Bible report from the American Bible Society reported this statistic:  57 percent of the world’s languages do not have a translation of the Bible.

The same survey showed a super majority of Americans believe the Bible has already been translated into every language on the planet.  Of 2,000 surveyed Americans, 72 percent said they believe the Gospel is available to the world in their native tongue.

Almost 31 percent of languages in the world do not even have a Bible translation underway and another 26 percent do not have a completed Bible translation.

Wycliffe Bible Translators president Bob Creson told the Christian Post that while there is a huge number of languages without a Bible, the translation process is happening faster than at any time in history.

“[2,195] is the highest number in history. There is more work going on than ever before. One of the ways I usually talk about it is that people have more access to Scripture than any other time in history in their first language. It gives people the best opportunity to respond to the Good News message,” Creson said.

Creson says that the goal is to have the translation process started for all the world’s languages by 2025.

“One way to look at [the survey], if you are a Bible translation agency like we are and the American Bible Society, you can be discouraged by that. But, that just shows you the opportunity that we have to continue to educate the Christian public about the need for Bible translation,” Creson said. “One of the big strengths of the American Bible Society is their geographic reach to be able to educate people on that issue. We partner with ABS on a number of different and important translation projects. I am very glad to see them doing this because they have a great reach to be able to help people understand that we are not there yet.”

Iowa Churches To Distribute Bibles In Every Home In Their City

Saturday, April 11th will be the “Day of the Bible” in Marshalltown, Iowa.

On that day a group of churches will place a Bible at each one of the 12,000 homes in the city.

The pastor of First Baptist Church in Marshalltown said that the move is being done in response to a series of violent crimes in the city.  He first suggested the idea in a pastor’s meeting and the idea quickly blossomed into the city-wide event.

“What made the other churches want to join so quickly is that our prayer time had recently focused on what appeared to be a dark cloud of gloom hovering over our community,” Pastor Gerald Robison wrote in a press release.

“There had been a murder, an attempted murder, arson and a shooting death in our area,” he wrote. “With all the bad news around us, the pastors had been praying over the town and we saw this project as a way of delivering hope.”

The event is being called “Hope 4 You – Hope 4 Iowa.”  The project was to cost $18,000 and Robison said that they were able to raise that exact amount for the Bibles.

Hundreds of Christians from churches all over the city will be meeting to hand out the Bibles over a three-hour period.

“We agree on the important things—-and the most important is that we all agree Jesus is the source of real hope. And we want to share that with others who may need it the most,” Robison said of the diverse churches taking part in the effort. “And so, the local congregations, all willing, eager, faithful and ready to share, have worked hard to make ‘Hope 4 You—Hope 4 Iowa’ a reality.”
