Islamic Extremists Attack Police In Bangladesh

islamistsriotbangladeshThree people are dead and 60 injured after Islamic extremists attacked riot police in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Islamists roared through the streets burning vehicles and either looting or burning businesses.  The group, lead by Hefazat-e-Islam, is estimated to have been as large as half a million people.  The group demanded that anyone who insulted Islam be immediately put to death. Continue reading

Four Killed In Bangladesh Islamist Trial Protests

At least four people are dead and dozens injured in a series of protests connected to the Islamist group Jamaat-e-Islami after one of its leaders was convicted of murder and other war crimes charges Tuesday.

Adding to the tensions were a group of pro-government protesters counter-protesting the Islamists and calling for Abdul Kader Mullah to be sentenced to death for his crimes. Continue reading

Bangladesh Islamic Leader Guilty Of War Crimes

A major leader of Bangladesh’s largest Islamic group has been convicted on war crimes charges related to the country’s 1971 revolution.

Abdul Kader Mullah, 64, has been sentenced to life in prison.

The tribunal found Mullah guilty on five of six charges including murder. Mullah was found to be a leader of the al-Bahr force which Jamaat-e-Islami created in the final days of the war to kidnap, beat and execute intellectuals. Over 200 people were kidnapped and killed by the group. Continue reading
