A major atheist leader is drawing fire from the pro-life community after he said children who have Down Syndrome should be aborted.
Richard Dawkins also said “unless you are a vegan, you are in no position to object to abortion.”
Dawkins said the justification for killing any Down Syndrome child is that they do not have human feelings when they are in the womb.
Dawkins’ comments drew many angered comments but also some very reasoned responses including from Kurt Kondrich, whose daughter inspired the Down Syndrome Prenatal Education Act in Pennsylvania.
“My 11-year old daughter has been nothing but a priceless blessing to our family and community since her birth, and she is a girl with many abilities,” he stated, noting that Chloe is active in a variety of activities, including volleyball and baseball, and loves to read. “Chloe has planted countless positive seeds, and she is a beautiful, intelligent, independent young lady who has accomplished more amazing feats in 11 years than most people do in a lifetime. She is more than capable of taking care of herself and helping others.”
Several groups said that Dawkins’ comments were in line with those of people in history who advocated eugenics and the elimination of individuals called “defective” by those in power.
Yahoo has followed the lead of Google in making sure women who are considering abortion do not see pro-life options in advertising.
Anti-life groups like NARAL Pro-Choice America filed complaints with Yahoo because ads for pro-life organizations and crisis pregnancy centers would appear when women were searching for abortion clinics. The anti-life groups want to make sure that women seeking an abortion find no other alternative to ending their baby’s life.
“We have found at least some of the ads to be out of compliance with our policies and we are taking them down,” a Yahoo spokesman told CNET. “We’re in the process of reviewing the other ads and will take similar action if any are found to not be in compliance with our policies.”
Anti-life advocates were overjoyed that the choice of giving babies the chance to live was being removed.
“We are pleased that Yahoo has confirmed that some of these deceptive crisis pregnancy center ads violate their advertising policies and stated that they will remove them so that women can continue to trust the search engine for accurate information,” NARAL president Ilyse Hogue said in a statement. “Women making this personal, medical decision should have comprehensive resources and accurate information. … We will work with Yahoo to pinpoint the ads that are masquerading as abortion clinics so they are promptly taken down when they appear.”
If you believe in the sanctity of life, the House minority leader thinks you’re stupid.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi told a Planned Parenthood group that was giving her an award that anyone who was pro-life was “closed-minded”, “oblivious” and “dumb.”
Pelosi was being given the Margaret Sanger Award for “outstanding contributions to the reproductive health and rights movement.” Sanger is the woman who founded Planned Parenthood and once said that she had to submit to the dictates of “an ever-increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who should never have been born at all.”
Pelosi said she was accepting the award on behalf of her colleagues who are continuing to fight for those who want to end the lives of their babies via abortion.
The gathering also gave a “Global Citizen Award” to former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg who is very pro-abortion.
Anti-life groups are organizing a campaign with the goal of trying to end “the stigma” of abortion.
The groups have even taken a slogan used during the Clinton administration of “safe, legal and rare” and dropped the word “rare” to add “affordable.”
The group is calling the event “1 in 3 Week of Action” claiming that one in every three women will have an abortion during their life. The group will be handing out books from women who are celebrating ending their baby’s lives via abortion.
The group also hired Katie Stack, a young women from the MTV show 16 and Pregnant, to come out and speak to the group about her decision to end her baby’s life via abortion. She will speak at an event being held at the University of Michigan.
“The fact of the matter is, no matter what anyone wants to debate about abortion and its morality, I feel that I made the right decision. And that’s threatening to people, the fact that I will say that,” Stack told an anti-life blog site.
