It is easy to accept the devil’s lies and strategy of how God feels about us. Many struggle with thoughts that God is just waiting to catch us doing something wrong and then “wham” hit us with His anger. Some believe that if we are not disciplined God doesn’t love us. Perceptions like this come from the accuser, guilt feelings, a sense of unworthiness and wrong teaching.
Think about it, if God (Who is all powerful) is mad at you, do you really want to be around Him? The enemy desires to alienate us from God so we won’t know, receive or experience God’s love.
Is God really mad at you or me? Let’s find out…
God does discipline those He loves but it is always for our good. We all need to experience consequences and accept responsibility for wrong doing. Discipline will save a person’s life, but discipline without relationship breeds rebellion.
A parent must be aware of the power one possesses to shape his or her children.
Proverbs 22:6 says — “Train, (action word beyond teaching), up a child in the way he should go, and when he or she is older, they will not depart from it.”
It is better to prepare your children than to repair them! Our two boys were very talented in sports, but, we never praised them for their talents but rather for their character. Their talents were God-given — not something they were able to acquire by themselves. However, as our boys exercised self-control and made good choices, we validated and praised them for their character displayed in difficult situations.
God’s discipline is really God’s protection. Correct discipline involves freedom of choice, love and consequences. Not allowing a person to experience the consequences of his or her actions can interrupt the character-building process.
Hebrews 12:10 — “His chastening is for our profit that we might be partakers of His Holiness.”
Focusing on self is the opposite of focusing on God. When Christians ignore God, and do not sense His Presence, they may begin to feel that God is far away, that God does not care for them, and that He is angry with them. Just the opposite is true. This is a lie of the enemy! The enemy is the one who is accusing God by sending these thoughts to your mind. God still loves you and the truth is He is waiting for you to draw near to Him.
1 John 4:16 – “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.” KJV
James 4:8: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
God gave us a road map for life in His written Word, the Bible —
B = Basic
I = Instructions
B = Before
L = Leaving
E = Earth
God’s Word performs spiritual surgery in our lives. It cuts out, adds to and heals!
Hebrews 4:12 – “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” KJV
Romans 11:22 – “Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God; sternness to those who rebel and kindness to those who trust and obey. ‘’
It is so easy to allow trials, testings and pains to create our theology and conclude God is mad at us. Tragedy strikes the righteous and the unrighteous.
In difficult times we trust Him.
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.”
In good times we praise Him:
Psalms 150:6 — “Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord!”
In all seasons of our life we can know and experience God’s love.
John 3:16 — “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting Life.”
His plan for us is for His pleasure.
Ephesians 1:4,5 — “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.”
God desires for us to pray in faith and receive His blessings.
Mark 11:24 — “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
To personally know Him is to love and serve Him.
Philippians 3:10 — “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His suffering, being conformed to His death.”
Be assured that God loves you, He is for you, not against you. God is love and His arms are open to receive you when you call upon Him. Change your thinking if you struggle with thoughts of condemnation. Allow your mind to be renewed by the Word of God.
John 3:17 – “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Your fellowship with the Lord will become more intimate and fulfilling when you understand God loves you with an everlasting love. His love included you before you were even born. Nothing you can do will change God’s mind about you. He loves you. He did not choose you based on your ability or performance. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
