Let’s learn more about the benefits of seeking our Lord.
God’s Word instructs us to avoid evil. But, how? The answer follows:
2 Chronicles 12:14 – “And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.”
You mean by not preparing my heart to seek the Lord that I could be leaving a door open for the enemy to play havoc? Absolutely! All of us are communing with someone or focusing on something. If God is not in the picture then you are preparing yourself to be easy prey for the enemy. Seek Him!
Prepare your heart, seek the Lord before making decisions, and you’ll become more aware of the enemy’s tactics!
In Chronicles we have the example of people agreeing to seek the Lord with all their heart and soul!
2 Chronicles 15:12-13 – “Then they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul.…”
If more of the Body of Christ would come together for the sole purpose of seeking the Lord, His will and His ways, imagine the impact it would have on our lives, society and families.
As you read the following scriptures think about the situation. Josiah began reigning at the tender age of eight. When Josiah was 16, he began to seek the Lord. And when Josiah was 20, what did God do? God led Josiah to get sin and idols out of the camp!
2 Chronicles 34:1-4 – “Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images.”
God does the same today. As we seek Him He shines His light on areas of our life, situations in our homes, or relationships that need to be dealt with. He exposes our weaknesses and wrong attitudes, and, if we repent, He cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Just like Josiah, it takes action and obedience on our part to follow through with God’s instructions.
Psalm 4:2 – “How long, O you sons of men, Will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood?”
These scriptures indicate that as humans we are seeking something, but so many are vain attempts that produce shame and reproach on the Body of Christ. Our selfish pursuits can simply be a waste of time and unfruitful.
You can’t sincerely seek God, find Him, and then not praise Him! He is worthy of all your praise. As you draw closer to Him you will be more in awe of His greatness and goodness and His mighty power. You will not just thank Him for what He does, but for Who He is.
Here is a promise that if we truly trust in the Lord and the power of His name and all that includes, then God promises to not forsake those who seek Him.
Psalm 9:10-11 – “And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. Sing praises to the Lord, … “
What an amazing and loving God we serve! Seek!
