There are many scriptures containing the word “seek” and I would like to share some that are relative for our daily living and essential for these end times.
So many today only seek God’s help in emergencies or when their lives are out of control. Throughout the Bible, there are numerous accounts of men and women who sought God when times were difficult and also in times of blessing.
While it is better to seek God than not seek Him at all, let’s look at the promises in the Word of God that come with consistently pursuing the Lord.
First and foremost our Lord promises that if we seek Him passionately we will find Him. Does that mean He is lost?? Of course not, but, God loves being sought by those who desire to draw close to Him. The Lord is the One who begins the initial work in our heart so we will even care about knowing God.
The most rewarding of all the promises, I believe, is that if we truly seek God we will find Him. Think about that – finding the Creator of the Universe, your true Father, the One who thought of you and just had to create you!
Psalm 27:4 – “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.” KJV
When you find God you have found everything because He is everything and is the source of everything you will ever need. Finding God means you are communicating with your Maker, the One who made Heaven and Earth and all that is in it. What an awesome privilege!
Deuteronomy 4:29-30 – “But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (all scriptures are NKJV unless otherwise noted)
1 Chronicles 16:10 – “…Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! Seek the Lord and His strength;”
Our hearts are to rejoice and be filled with joy. Why? Because we are seeking the One who is the source of joy. He is the reason we can rejoice in the midst of our heartaches.
1 Chronicles 22:19 – “Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God.”
We can set our will and therefore make up our mind to seek God. Someone once said, “You know God as much as you want to.” When I first heard this statement I had somewhat of an indignant response. I reasoned, “Well you just don’t know how busy I am as a single mom raising four kids and working extra jobs. There’s not enough time and yes I really want to know Him better, BUT…”
After the Lord dealt with me on this I began to understand that if we truly want to know God and seeking Him is a priority, then we will make time for Him. Of course there will be always be distractions and attempts from the enemy to throw us off our pursuit of the Lord.
When distractions happen, (and I say “when” not “if” because they will) just begin again and don’t give up. It is so worth the effort! Soon you will be communicating with the Lord throughout your day in addition to your special time with Him.
Another reason to seek, repent and humble ourselves is so our land and our nation can be healed!
2 Chronicles 7:14-15 – “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
This responsibility falls upon the people of God as explained in scripture. It is amazing that God would offer His own people a part in returning a nation back to God. This is exactly what America needs now.
Throughout this next week let’s focus on interceding for our nation.
*Come back next week for Part 2 of “Seek”
