The Real Reason for Christmas

Clete Snellenberger

In Genesis 1, we have the recount of God’s purpose for the creation of mankind.  He made man; spirit, soul and body, and gave him a perfect helpmate to communicate with each day in a very beautiful garden.

Even when man and his wife sinned, as recorded in Genesis 3, and were expelled from God’s beautiful setting, God’s Son, Jesus was on the scene as “an Angel of the Lord”.   All through the Old Testament, even when Jesus came as a baby boy born of the Virgin Mary, He was prophesied of coming in Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 9:6,7, 750 years before it happened.

In Galatians 4:4-5, it declares that in God’s perfect timing God sent His Son, Jesus, as the “Son of Man”, to win back what Adam gave away in the garden in Genesis 1.  Jesus had to come as a baby for this purpose!

My wife and I used to sing this song that explains the real reason for Christmas.  “When I was but a youngster, Christmas meant one thing, that I’d be getting a lot of toys that year.  But, I learned a whole lot different when Mother sat me down and taught me to spell Christmas this way.

“When I was but a youngster, Christmas meant one thing: that I’d be getting lots of toys that day.  I learned a whole different when Mother sat me down and taught me to spell Christmas this way.

C is for the Christ child, born upon this day,

H for Herald Angels in the night,

R means Our Redeemer,

I means Israel,

S is for the Star that shone so bright.

T is for Three Wise Men, they who travelled far,

M is for the manger where He lay

A for all He stands for,

S means Shepherds came.  And that is why there’s a Christmas Day.”

He is the Way

He is the Truth

He is the Life

He is my All in All!
