Netanyahu Turns Down Private Meeting With Senate Democrats

Luke 19:43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu turned down an invitation to meet privately with Senate Democrats during his visit next week to Washington.

Netanyahu said that holding the meeting would “compound the misperception of partisanship” regarding his trip.  The White House has accused Republican leaders in Congress with inviting Netanyahu in an attempt to undermine their negotiations with Iran.

Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., on Monday invited Netanyahu to meet in a closed-door session with Democrats during his visit.

“I regret that the invitation to address the special joint session of Congress has been perceived by some to be political or partisan,” Netanyahu wrote. “I can assure you that my sole intention in accepting it was to voice Israel’s grave concerns about a potential nuclear agreement with Iran that could threaten the survival of my country.”

More than a half dozen House and Senate Democrats said they will skip the joint session of Congress out of loyalty to President Obama.  Vice President Biden has also said he will not attend the joint session of Congress.

  2. Yes, God Bless Netanyahu and Israel. We need to continuing praying for Israel and her people and pray that our government will be there to protect Israel until the time comes….

  3. I think meetings should take place with President Obama and with Netanyahu having to meet with congress, democrats or republicians is showing me Obama doesn’t want to get involved or say too much about protecting Israel.

  4. I am a born again believer, Jesus Christ is my savior, I am saying that upfront. I very respectfully disagree with the PM of Israel speaking to our Congress at this time of unrest. Even though he was invited, he should have discussed this visit with our President. If the President tried to discourage him, but the PM chose to come anyway, even that would have shown some regard. The PM turned down a mtg with the democrats, so that tells us that this was a politically motivated move in our country and for the PM’s up and coming election. Remember this was the man who spoke to our country after 911 asking us to take out Sadam because he had WMD and told us Sadam was ready to go to war with many stashes of chemical weapons. This man said he was sure of this information. (He was not PM at that time.) That said, the US does continue to support Israel, yearly, to the tune of over three billion in direct foreign aid and over 12 billion in indirect aid (military equipment, loan guarantees, and preferential contracts). This aid continues whether or not the two leaders agree, and I respect that. It is time to remember that the PM of Israel does not represent all of Israel, just like our current president does not represent all of America, and actually that would include all elected officials. These leaders are human and all need our prayers. I know there are other Christians who, like me, are so disgusted by all of this political grandstanding. Keeping our eyes upon Jesus is the most important thing we can do. So, God said we are to support Israel, and we will. I wonder how easy it would be for many people if there were a liberal as a PM? See, how crazy this can be?…I also wonder
what the Jewish people think when they hear all of the end time predictions? They continue to welcome the Christians into their country, knowing the Christians are delivering the message of salvation and condemnation if they don’t believe! That one is mind boggling…

    • I agree that the US does support Israel and must continue to do so. However, a private meeting with the democrats would in my opinion look partisan. Every democrat had the opportunity to attend one speech. Who knows what would have been said in a private meeting. Both sides of the house and the senate all need to hear the same message and debate it based on that. I respect both sides and both voices must be heard. I agree with your comment about “what must Israel think.” I wonder the same. We must pray that our leaders in Washington do what is in the best interest of the US and Israel.

  5. We need to pray that we unite and listen to what this man has to say. The problem exists in his backyard and the threat is very real to Israel. We must stand with them, the bible teaches us this over and over again. I have written my congressmen and senators and have urged them to attend. I pray that our the hearts of our president and vice president will be softened and they will reconsider and listen to what this man has to say. I believe the intelligence that Israel has regarding Iran, and the middle east situation as a whole, is probably the most reliable source available.

  6. God bless Benjamin Netanyahu…He is coming with a warning message to America over Purim… He is not only the Prime Minister, but also a prophet of the Most High God. May the Lord make his forehead harder than flint as he brings forth a stern message that must be heeded!
