A king is born! A king is born! There was a big celebration in Heaven at the birth of Jesus. The angels praised and worshipped God when Christ’s birth was announced to the shepherds.
Luke 2:10-14 KJV “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Many centuries had passed since the prophecy was given that Christ would come to the earth. At the time of Jesus’ birth, the Jews were crying out for a Deliver. They knew of the promise of a King of Kings coming to earth to rule and reign and longed desperately to be rescued. But many did not recognize that their Messiah had been sent to them as a baby wrapped in flesh.
Christ’s birth was the fulfillment of a long-standing prophecy given by Isaiah centuries before it occurred.
Isaiah 9:6-7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
Many lacked understanding that their Messiah would first come to Earth through the process of birth like any other baby. It was inconceivable to them (and still today for many) that God would choose to bring their Deliverer through the birth canal of a virgin girl. This child Jesus would grow up among the common people and enter into full-time ministry at the age of thirty.
Anytime news is received of someone becoming pregnant with a child it has life-changing effects on the person bearing the child as well as her family. Mary was no exception to this. In addition to being a single woman (only betrothed at the time to Joseph) Mary pondered on this news which was delivered by an angel! Read the Christmas story in Luke 2.
Our Lord did not stay a baby as you know. He grew to manhood and He was God in the flesh. He was the pure Lamb of God living a perfect life. He took all our punishment that was due at Calvary and rose victorious over death, Hell and the grave!
So who do you say this child was? Was He just another teacher, prophet, or nice person who had loyal followers?
Your answer to that question will determine where you spend Eternity. That is how important your response is to this inquiry. Search your heart and if you are not sure of your eternal destination, there is no better time than this season to accept Jesus as your Savior.
We all will at some time have to answer the question, “What Child is this?”
Jesus asked the same question in Mark 8:29 — “Who do you say that I am?”
Do you believe He is the Christ? Jesus was born on the Earth, but has He been born in you? People are containers – what’s in you? Born-again Christians contain the Spirit of God within them.
I pray that your answer will be the one God desires for you. He does not want one person to perish!
John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
