Let’s Press On To Know Him!

Betty Dewhirst

In the early 1970’s I was attending a camp meeting in Oregon. Those were the days of the charismatic renewal, when there was a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The prophetic words that came forth during that time period were very powerful and life-changing! Many were saved, delivered and baptized with the Holy Spirit.

The week of meetings were held at Aldersgate Park, a beautiful campground with a swift flowing stream that attracted all the young children and teenagers in attendance. One evening during the service, I felt impressed to check on my youngest son, who was around six years old at the time, to be sure that he was still in his class and had not wandered off to go swimming. The stream was swift enough that he could have easily drowned. Upon checking, I was relieved to find that he was in class and listening attentively to the teacher.

As I returned to the Tabernacle, the word of the Lord was coming forth from one of the leaders on the platform, and I stopped at the door to listen. There were two words that came forth that night which the Lord planted in my spirit!

The prophecies were very powerful and stirring that night, but these two words especially resonated in my heart and have remained with me all these years, and on occasion have been brought to my remembrance.

The first word was: “Those that love not their lives even unto death, I will bring forth into full anointing!” My heart was hungry for more of the Lord, and I had a deep desire to be set free from anything that was a hindrance in my life and keeping me from coming into a greater maturity in Christ. My heart was deeply stirred as I heard that word!

Later, another word came that was a strong warning! “Those that do not hunger and thirst after righteousness I will lead into strong delusion.” (2 Thessalonians 2:11) That word got my attention, and although it was a solemn warning, it has been very helpful to me through the years, and especially now, as we see the return of the Lord drawing near!

We know that we are living in perilous times and these are Revelation days! We are seeing great compromise in the modern churches today. Many pastors are often more concerned about pleasing people than pleasing God! The church and the world have intermarried. Many claim to be Christians, but their life styles don’t confirm their confession.

At the same time, there is a remnant of true believers whose heart is to follow the Lamb wherever He goes. Hallelujah! The Lord desires that we seek Him, that we press into His presence. As we grow in God, our desire to know Him better should motivate us to spend more time in prayer and in His Word.

Proverbs 8:17—“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” KJV

Jeremiah 29:13 – “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

Throughout the ages, God has always had a people. Those, who regardless of the cost, have been willing to do what the Lord has called them to do. Even so today, God is preparing a people! An army is arising that will be mightily used of the Lord in these last days to usher in the return of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ! The time is now to be strengthened and prepared for the coming days. We are part of the Revelation generation.

Isaiah 60:1-2 declares “Arise shine for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people; but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee.”

Revelation 12:11 – “And they overcame him (satan), by the blood of the lamb, and by the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should be saved! He is a merciful Heavenly Father! Yeshua (Jesus) is our great High Priest! Let us come boldly to the throne of grace and find help in time of need!

This is a glorious day for the Body of Christ, the Church! Let us all press on to know Him and to fulfill our destiny in God! Amen!

Good word I believe what you said there are so many people who say they are Christians but you cannot tell a difference, I have been in church all my life but after going through this illness with the dizziness it has brought me closer to God, before I was just going through the motions and going to church, but not really living for God like I should I felt such a pulling at my heart when I read this you are amazing, I am glad I got to know you over the phone and you prayed for me, I am glad how God is using you to reach others, that is my goal to reach others for him to and to live a more pure life, he is coming soon and you are right pastors cannot worry about offending people, they have to focus on telling the truth,,

  2. Good word Mom! I always wondered where that park was and I do remember that stream. Thanks for checking on me too. I remember Norm Mahoney caught a really large tuna sized fish in that stream. I also remember getting stung by yellow jackets there and huckleberries. God’s word must be preached in clarity and purity for a world to receive the message correctly. 1) Repent 2) Be Baptised. That order.

  3. Betty you have an ear to hear the Holy Spirit and a heart to obey. We are so honored to have crossed your path and we are blessed to see you being used of God to proclaim His word. I believe God is using the older people in ways that will provoke the younger to jealousy and be a sign that causes others to wonder. Blessings to you, Bobby and Cheryl

  4. Amazing word, Betty. I, too, remember those powerful prophetic words of exhortation to stay close to Jesus. They are even more pertinent today as the days grow shorter. Thank You for bringing this to the table. It’s truly a feast of the Lord’s spirit.
