India Flooding Death Toll Now 138

Military troops are now leading rescue operations in the flood-torn northern states in India including the use of helicopters to rescue stranded civilians.

Officials have confirmed the deaths of 138 people with hundreds more still missing.

India Flooding Death Toll Jumps To 70

India officials have listed the latest confirmed deaths from widespread flooding in the northern part of the nation at 70. Hundreds are still missing after heavy rains have washed buildings into the rivers along with cars and heavy equipment.

In addition to thousands being forced to leave their homes, officials say at least 75,000 people on a religious pilgrimage are trapped in the region because flooding has cut off all roads to the southern part of the country. Continue reading

The leaders of the BRICS nations are discussing the creation of a development bank that would be in direct competition to the World Bank.

Police Beat and Torture Indian Christians

Christians in Phatachanchara, India were tortured and beaten on February 15th according to a report just released from the Barnabas Fund.

Christians were forced from their homes at 2:30am by close to 60 local police officers who invaded the homes without warning. The Christians were beaten, abused and in some cases made to march miles across rocky, thorny ground in bare feet. Continue reading

Millions Without Power In India

Over 600 million people are without power in India after three power grids completely collapsed a day after one of the three grids had individually failed.

The power failure is having wide-ranging impact beyond residents as business are closed and the transportation system has been paralyzed. Hundreds of trains are at a standstill. Hospitals are relying on backup generators. Continue reading
