Over 33,000 people have been ordered to evacuate as Guatemala’s Fuego volcano experienced a violent eruption Thursday night.
Volcanologists have reported that burning rocks are flying as high as half a mile above the volcano’s crater and that lava is rushing down the mountain’s slopes. The eruption is being called the biggest since 1999.
The volcano is located 31 miles southwest of the capital, Guatemala City.
“We will do the best we can to avoid people being harmed,” President Otto Perez Molina told the BBC. The head of Emergency Operations said that more than 33,000 people and 17 towns have been ordered to evacuate.
Lava is covering a 4.3-mile area on the south and southwest side of the volcano. Authorities have recommended that all air travel near the volcano cease due to the rapidly spreading ash cloud from the volcano crater.
“We heard loud thunder and then it got dark and ash began falling,” 28-year-old Miriam Carumaco told the BBC. “It sounded like a pressure cooker that wouldn’t stop.”

Bring a spirit of repentance and humility so that all the people would cry out to You and not be defiant or angry, but cry for your mercy. Father provide whatever they may need now in the form of medical,or spiritual needs, or physical needs. We ask for the salvation of those ready to go into eternity.
