Luke 21:9-10: [Jesus said] "When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away." Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom."
The Obama administration has suspended the delivery of four F-16 fighter jets to Egypt in their most visible response to the military removal of President Mohammed Morsi.
A Pentagon spokesman said the delay was a cautionary measure.
“We do not believe it would be in the best interest of the United States to immediately change all of our assistance to Egypt,” George Little said. “Given the current situation in Egypt, we do not believe it is appropriate to move forward at this time with the delivery of F-16s.”
The contract that includes the delivery of F-16s was made in 2009. The jets were one of the two largest purchases from a $3.2 billion U.S. assistance fund. The other was an order for dozens of M1A1 tanks.
Egypt’s military is one of the strongest in the region thanks to its connections to U.S. forces and access to U.S. military equipment.
The Obama administration has refused to call Morsi’s ouster a military coup because that would require all U.S. aid to be stopped by federal law.
