Turrialba Volcano in Costa Rica Erupts

Turrialba, one of the largest volcanoes in Costa Rica, is erupting into clouds of ash and toxic gas. An small evacuation is being carried out as a result of the eruption.

A green alert, the lowest of three levels, was issued by park rangers.

Gino Gonzalez, government seismologist, said that it appears the volcano is beginning to calm down but evacuations are ongoing. The volcano has been in a series of eruptions since 2007 that had lead to evacuations in 2010 and 2012.

Turrialba is just 40 miles east of the capital city of San Jose.
