WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump issued a proclamation on Tuesday removing tariffs on aluminum imports from Canada.

In the document released by the White House, Trump said he would consider reimposing tariffs if there was a surge in imports of non-alloyed unwrought aluminum from Canada.

The U.S. Trade Representative’s office said last month the Trump administration had reached an agreement with Canada to limit imports of raw Canadian aluminum into the United States, allowing duty-free shipments of the metal to resume retroactive to Sept. 1.
