Luke 21:25,26 “There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Tropical Storm Gabrielle roared into Puerto Rico with heavy rain and winds causing downed trees and power lines.
Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla activated the national guard and closed all public schools and government agencies as a precaution against the storm.
“We should not lower our guard,” he said. “The storm is very dangerous. There’s a high possibility of flooding.”
Meterologists say the storm will weaken during the day Thursday and could spare the neighboring Dominican Republic if it does not increase in intensity overnight. The storm was officially downgraded to a tropical depression early Thursday afternoon.
Up to a foot of rain is expected in the central part of the country as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The storm comes after 14 inches of rain fell in the capital of San Juan in July, the wettest month in the country’s history.
