Three British Men Jailed On Terrorism Charges

Three British Muslims have been sentenced to prison for their parts in planning terrorist attacks near the time of the London Olympic Games.

Richard Dart, a Muslim convert, was sentenced to six years. Imran Mahmood received a 9 year, 9 month sentence and Jahangir Alom will spend four and a half years behind bars. All three men pled guilty in March to charges related to their plot.

“I’m satisfied to the required criminal standard that neither of you had ruled out an attack in the United Kingdom, and that you, Mahmood, were looking at arming yourself with a bomb,” the judge stated as he ruled Mahmood and Dart would receive extended sentences.

Mahmood was seen by police and counter-terrorism experts as the ringleader of the group. He provided instruction to the other two men who had gone to Pakistan to try and gain terrorist training. They had planned to bomb a town that was a point of repatriation of British soldiers returning from Afghanistan.

The men tried to avoid detection by surveillance equipment by typing in a word processing program and then deleting the text. However, forensic experts were able to obtain over 2,000 pages of computer code with the fragments of their conversation regarding the bombing plot.
