Homicide bombers drove a car to the Indian consulate and detonated their explosives killing at least 9 civilians and wounding dozens. Most of the wounded were civilians from a nearby mosque and no members of the Indian diplomatic team were wounded.

Terrorists then launched an assault on the complex exchanging gunfire with security forces for almost an hour.

A witness told the BBC one of the terrorists stopped to ask for directions to the Indian consulate. Two of the three terrorists jumped from the car and were shot dead by police while the third detonated the car.

A large crater was found in the road at the site of the car bomb.

This is not the first time the Indian consulate has been targeted by Islamic terrorists. The Indian embassy in Kabul was attacked in 2008 and 2009.
