Protesters connected to the Muslim Brotherhood upset about the ouster of Mohammed Morsi attacked security forces overnight resulting in the deaths of at least 7.
Police also used tear gas to disperse the protesters who had blocked major roads throughout Cairo. The protesters responded by throwing rocks at the police.
Health ministry official Khaled al-Khatib told state media that 261 people were injured in incidents across the city. Al-Khatib said that 124 are still in Cairo area hospitals due to the extent of their injuries.
The Muslim Brotherhood is trying to claim it was a peaceful protest despite media capturing video of the protesters attacking security troops. State media said that 401 of the protesters had been arrested in connection with the assaults on troops.
The Muslim Brotherhood also refused to meet with a U.S. envoy in Egypt to meet with all parties connected to the situation saying that the U.S. was behind the removal of Morsi even with no evidence to support that claim.
