Papua New Guinea Rattled By Quake

Luke 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has rattled Papua New Guinea.

The epicenter of the quake is reported to be 18 miles north of Rabaul on the island of New Britain. The quake was measured at 10 miles deep.

No tsunami alert was reported and the Port Moresby Geophysical Observatory reported no unusual wave activity.

Papua New Guinea lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire.

This is the second major quake in a week for the island nation. A magnitude 6.8 quake struck 11 miles east of Aitape and lasted over three minutes. Residents fled the area fearing a tsunami that never materialized from the quake.

However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that a quake of this magnitude could produce a tsunami so residents were wise to take precautions.
