Japan Raises Fukushima Nuclear Plant Leak Alert

Revelation 6:7,8 NCV When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!"8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse. Its rider was named death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill people by war, by starvation, by disease, and by the wild animals of the earth.

A radioactive water leak at the damaged Fukushima nuclear facility in Japan has forced the country’s nuclear agency to raise the alert level of the problem.

The International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale first listed the leak as a level one, lowest on the seven point scale. The Japanese government now says the leak should be considered level three.

This leak is the first time since the plant was swamped by a tsunami in 2011 which caused three of the reactors on site to melt down that Japan has logged an incident on the INES.

Water is being pumped in to cool down the reactors but the result of the action is significant amounts of radioactive water being stored on the site. The current leak is at least 300 tons of highly radioactive water. The amount of radiation coming from the water is so high that one plant official said it could give a “five-year dose of radiation within one hour.”

The Japan Nuclear Regulation Authority is watching the situation closely saying that it feared the company running the plants cannot handle the problem. The leak apparently had been happening for weeks despite twice daily patrols to find leaks in storage units.

The level three designation means the leak can still be classified as an “incident” on the international scale. Level four and higher designates an “accident.”
