A trial in Oxford, England of nine men on human trafficking charges took a horrific turn on Thursday as one of their victims testified on the abuse she sustained during her years of captivity.
The girl, now 12, told the court she was forced to have a “back room abortion” after becoming pregnant through repeated rapes by her captors and the clients they obtained for her. The girl also had her captor’s initials burned into her buttocks with hot pins as a “reminder” that she was “owned property.”
The girl stated she had been sold to the trafficker at age 11 in an attempt to “cure her bad attitude.” Another victim, 14, told the court she was taken by the men from a children’s home.
The girl said she had been burned with a lighter if she refused to follow the men’s orders.
The accused reportedly obtained between 400 and 600 British pounds ($640 to $960 U.S. dollars) from each client served by the girl. The men are facing 51 charges of rape, arranging child prostitution and human trafficking related to girls aged 11 to 15.
