Eurozone Considering Cyprus Bailout

Revelation 6:3-4 NCV When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take away peace (prosperity, rest) from the earth and to make people kill each other (butcher, slaughter, to maim violently, in streets), and he was given a big sword (assassins sword, terrorist, loud, mighty, sore afraid).

Cyprus is the latest European nation to be on the verge of receiving an EU bailout.

Finance ministers from EU countries are meeting today to discuss a $22 billion (U.S.) bailout of the island nation. Germany is resisting and insisting that those who have deposits in Cyprus banks pay for the rescue calling it a “bail-in”.

The Cyprus government has expressed concerns that a bailout could start a run on withdrawals from their banks making the situation worse.

The withdrawal of Cyprus from the EU is also something that is being discussed because several ministers believe that despite the nation’s small size an exit would have a major impact on the eurozone.

In addition to Cyrpus, the meeting will discuss easing terms of the bailouts given to Portugal and Ireland. The countries are seeking a longer time period to repay bailout funds.
