Bombing in Syrian Capital Kills 13

damascusbombingCivilians and security personnel are among the dead after a terrorist bombing in Syria’s capital.

The bombing comes one day after Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi survived a car bomb attack in Damascus.

The bombing struck near a hotel, shopping center and a building housing the interior ministry. No group has claimed responsibility for what the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights called a car bomb. Syrian state television showed dozens of wounded being carried away from the bomb site.

In the wake of none of the known rebel groups claiming responsibility for the bombing, opposition spokesmen are questioning if the bombings have been the work of President al-Assad’s government as they try to maintain power and claim the rebels are terrorists.

The number of killed in March has been totaled at over 6,000 with one third of the dead civilians.

Syria’s representative to the UN has been attempting to defuse the concern of the world that the government has been using chemical weapons against rebels. Bashar Jaafari said his government is waiting for dates and locations with evidence that the government was involved with the use of the weapons.
