The battles between government forces and the Free Syrian Army are gaining intensity as neighborhoods in the city exchange control multiple times in the same day.

The Salah al-Din part of the city, considered a strategic district by both sides, was reported to be captured by government forces but a later report said the FSA recaptured the area.

Salah al-Din is a vital supply route for government forces. The rebel forces are trying to hold the area to keep the government from being able to maintain an assault against the rebels.

Various pictures from the city show buildings turned into rubble by the heavy weapons being used by both sides.

The New York Times has reported that photographs on Facebook showed the rebels have obtained heat-seeking, anti-aircraft missile launchers.

Amnesty International said they are tracking attacks against civilians so that those responsible could be accountable for their actions.
