As a veteran, Bill Whaley served our country for over eighteen years. The Junk Man, as he is known, can create amazing things from pure junk or the neighbor’s trash. Bill can help save a family with his simple techniques of how to use basic household garbage. Bill’s wife Pam loves to dumpster dive and has found great treasures. Living frugally is the motto for this fascinating duo and survival is the motivation that drives them.

Bill Whaley grew up as a farm boy. He learned to live on nothing. Having an appreciation for tough times and learning how to live on less, his goal is to teach others that everything can be reused and have a purpose. The principal behind this is simple; God took each one of us a broken mess and made a treasure. People, when they fall on difficult times, they will learn to survive on nothing. The system does not care about us; we must take care of ourselves.

Bill’s ministry gained popularity when he fired his local power company. The system keeps taking more and more, the problem is most of us do not have more to give. It is nice to have things but you have to have a job and money. The jobs are leaving the US quickly. What will most people do when they have nothing and no survival skills? The taxes are going up, while the paychecks continue to go down. We all need to learn to be self-sufficient.

There is a difference between renewable and returnable energy. The sales promotions are for expensive solar power equipment for $20-$30 thousand dollars. By taking the neighbors junk, the same equipment can be made, for pennies on the dollar. Bill and his wife are self-sufficient and have two homes, both in Illinois and Missouri. He uses solar, wind and gas to power his home. His home can be heated with the gas off his septic tank. While this sounds strange, gas is methane and can be recycled and used for heat.

Bill and his wife Pam are non-conformists. They are trailblazers and are completely off the grid. He is known by many names around the homeless camps in St. Louis, but “The Junk Man” is one that seems to stick. The first seminar of sorts that he did was called “Living on Junk”, after that he was known for his junk and the name evolved. One of the most fascinating things Bill showed the audience is how to take a bread bag and turn it into gasoline. Plastic is gas when melted down and it can be used.

Most people take simple household items such as coffee creamer bottles, spaghetti jars and 2 liter bottles and throw them out. Bill and his wife take these items to make water filtration systems and solar cookers for nearly nothing. Using a number 10 can, similar to a coffee can, it can be made into a skillet or can be combined with Vienna sausage can and make a heater. Bill believes the financial trouble will hit everyone in the year 2012. However, most people will not do a thing until it is way too late. The time to prepare for our families is now. The foods supplies and emergency equipment that Pastor Jim enforces is essential for survival with an unforeseen future. The only way to make it in the end times is to know how to have instinct for endurance. With perilous times in the near future, only the strong will survive.
