33 Now Confirmed Dead From MERS

The World Health Organization has confirmed a 33rd death from the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) coronavirus along with three new cases in Saudi Arabia.

The new cases make 58 laboratory-confirmed cases of the infection. The latest death was a 21-year-old man who had been admitted into intensive care earlier this week. The death is unusual in that most cases involve older people; the other two cases in Saudi Arabia are a 63-year old woman in stable condition and a 75-year-old man in intensive care. Saudi Arabian Flash Flooding Kills 13

saudifloodingAt least 13 people are confirmed dead with others missing as flash flooding struck across Saudi Arabia.

Deaths were reported in all parts of the country including the capital of Riyadh. The Saudi Civil Defense Authority is urging people to avoid valleys and plains. Heavy rainfall has been deluging the country since Friday. The rain is being called the heaviest to hit Saudi Arabia in 25 years. Continue reading

Saudi Arabia Man Faces Paralysis As Punishment

Under the “eye for an eye” mindset of Islamic law, a 24-year-old Saudi Arabia man has been sentenced to be permanently paralyzed because he caused paralysis to a friend when he was 14.

Ali Al-Khawahir stabbed his best friend in the back when they were 14 resulting in paralysis. A Saudi court on Sunday ruled that Al-Khawahir is to be permanently paralyzed unless he can pay the victim almost $270,000. Continue reading
