Tornado Hits Elementary School Head-On; Children Killed

Moore, Oklahoma officials announced around 7 p.m. local time that they have moved from a search and rescue operation to a recovery effort at Plaza Towers Elementary School.

At least seven children were confirmed dead at 7 p.m local time.  Emergency staff on the scene says as many as 30 more children could be in the rubble of the school but they do not anticipate finding any more survivors.

Cadaver dogs have been brought in to help find the bodies.

Briarwood Elementary School, also hit by the storm, was reported Monday night to have all students accounted for with only minor injuries.  A day care center next door to the school was also hit by the tornado but all children were pulled safely from the debris.

  1. To all the parents, siblings and other relatives of these poor children, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I know the horror of what has happened to your children will never fade, I’m so sorry. Nature is cruel. We need to work to sort this world out, stop damaging nature, so that nature can heal and these horrors will stop too.

Sending love and prayers (from France) to you all

    Angela
