Terrorists Bomb Gold Mine in Greece

Revelation 6:3-4 NCV When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take away peace (prosperity, rest) from the earth and to make people kill each other (butcher, slaughter, to maim violently, in streets), and he was given a big sword (assassins sword, terrorist, loud, mighty, sore afraid).

Greece, in the middle of the worst recession in the world, has had masked intruders firebomb a gold mining development in the northern part of the country with the stated goal of shutting the mining operation.

Machinery, vehicles and storage containers were damaged in the attack.

The Helias Gold mine is scheduled to open in 2015 and bring over 5,000 jobs to the region which has been hit hard by the recession. The area has some of the highest rates of local unemployment in the country.

“No-one doubts any longer that northern Greece is a source of mineral wealth, with a total wealth in metals exceeding 20bn euros (£17bn),” Deputy Energy and Environment Minister Asimakis Papageorgiou told parliament. “We can no longer accept this being left unexploited or barely exploited.”

Despite entering the sixth year of heavy recession, some residents are upset about the potential environmental damage. Concern about potential chemicals in the groundwater is a driving force for critics.
