Following the government slaughter of 49 children and 34 women in Houla, Syria, several Western nations have announced they are expelling Syrian diplomats. The United States, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Canada, Italy and Australia have announced they were ordering Syrian diplomats to leave their countries.
The United Nations has issued a report that says the women and children were summarily executed by the government forces.
Russia, who supplies weapons to the Syrian government, was quick to assign blame to both sides for the government troops killing women and children. Russia is also taking steps in the United Nations to block all efforts against the Syrian government in Damascus.
UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan is in Damascus for meetings with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad regarding the UN brokered cease fire.
