A Saudi Arabian man was arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport with an altered passport and a pressure cooker.
The man lied during questioning by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent about the pressure cooker he was carrying into the country. A pressure cooker was a key component in the Boston Marathon bombings.
Hussain Al Khawahir appeared Monday before a federal magistrate on charges related to his deception at the airport.
Officials are being cautious in saying they don’t know if this is definitely a connection to terrorism. All prosecutors are saying is that they are taking the situation slowly to make sure the public is protected.
Nasser Almarzooq, the nephew of Al Khawahir, said that the pressure cooker was being brought to him so that he could “cook lamb.”
