Pope Francis has told reporters he wants a “poor church, for the poor” and asked them to get to know the Church with its “virtues and sins.”
The Pope asked reporters to share the Church’s focus on “truth, goodness and beauty” and said the church’s mission is “spiritual, not political.”
BBC Vatican correspondent said the new Pope has a markedly different style than Pope emeritus Benedict. David Willey said Pope Francis “talks in simple, easy to understand terms about ethical values and shows a remarkable sense of humor.”
The Pope also confirmed his choice of name came from St. Francis of Assisi because St. Francis was “dedicated to the poor.”
“How I wish the Church could become poor again,” Pope Francis said.
