Luke 21:25,26 “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
The sun released the biggest solar flare of 2013 on Mother’s Day, an X-class flare that is the highest class emitted by the sun.
The flare measured as an X1.7-class eruption according to the Space Weather Prediction Center. The flare caused an hour-long blackout of high-frequency radio communications around the planet.
Fortunately for Earth, the flare erupted on the far side of the sun. If the flare pointed directly at the planet, it would pose risks to astronauts and satellites, alter communications and GPS and could damage the Earth’s power grids.
The X-class flare has created several M-class flares in the areas surrounding the X-class flare. Astronomers note that NASA’s infrared Spitzer Space Telescope and Deep Impact spacecraft are in the line of fire of the solar flare.
The current active phase of the sun, Solar Cycle 24, began in 2008 and is expected to run through 2019-2020
