Meteor Injury Toll Over 1200; Damage Repair to Cost Millions

Luke 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

Russian officials have reported that at least 200 of the wounded in Friday’s meteor blast were children as the total of injuries passes 1,200.

In addition, the estimated cost of recovery will top $33 million (U.S.) dollars according to government analysts.

The initial estimate says 4,000 buildings, mostly apartment complexes, were damaged by the shockwave. Over 200,000 square kilometers (77,220 square miles) of glass were broken.

The temperatures in the region have been below freezing making the repairs of windows and building a major necessity in the region. Thousands of residents are being forced to live in shockwave damaged homes with little or no heat.

“[The light was] like 10 suns,” Denis Kuznetsov, a historian from Chelyabinsk told CNN. “Thank God no one died.”

Over 24,000 emergency responders have been deployed in the region.

NASA officials, calling it a “tiny asteroid”, said this is a once-in-a-century event. It said the entire event from entry into the atmosphere to the explosion over Russia took less than 33 seconds.

  1. Very informative article. Thank you Jason. Makes you realize that there’s more to prepare for than food. Had never considered losing all the windows in my house unless the house had been destroyed by a tornado, etc. Very thankful for all the insight that comes from Morningside. Many many thanks to Jim Bakker.
