Friday morning, just after midnight, a meteor weighing approximately 10 tons as it entered the atmosphere exploded 950 miles East of Moscow, traveling at 19 miles per second.
Over 1,100 people have sought medical help so far with 112 being kept in hospital according to various news sources.
It was seen away as far as 125 miles, with one eye-witness saying “It was blinding, like headlights. The noise was like an explosion.”
Scientists were unable to predict Friday morning’s hit in Russia because the glare of the Sun masked its approach. The meteor that struck Russia broke into 3 parts, damaging approximately 3,000 buildings in below freezing temperatures.
Scientists are saying that this could possibly be a meteor shower as opposed to a single meteor hit.
Since Friday, there have been more meteor sightings in California and in Cuba.
