MERS Claims Another Victim; Bird Flu Deadlier Than First Thought

Revelation 6:7,8 NCV When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!"8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse. Its rider was named death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill people by war, by starvation, by disease, and by the wild animals of the earth.

Saudi Arabia announced another death from the MERS virus bringing the death toll to 34.

A total of 66 cases have been confirmed by Saudi officials making the fatality rate for the virus to 52%.

The World Health Organization confirmed 64 of the cases but says there are 38 deaths worldwide from the disease. While Saudi Arabia has confirmed they have found more cases of the virus, the WHO has not confirmed them.

Meanwhile, researchers investigating the H7N9 bird flu that broke out in China in March say the virus has a death rate of 36% much higher than first believed. The World Health Organization says H7N9 is now “one of the most lethal influenza viruses and that it spread faster than the last bird flu strain, H5N1.

The new strain is less deadly than H5N1, which killed 70% of those infected.

Researchers say the number of cases of H7N9 have stalled but the threat of the virus remains and could likely strike again in the winter.
