Luke 21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
A major earthquake has struck along the Chilean coastline sending people running into the streets and knocking out communications throughout the region.
The US Geological survey reports a preliminary 6.1 magnitude quake struck about 55 miles north of Coquimbo, Chile just after 4 p.m. local time. Despite the epicenter’s proximity to the coastline, the Chilean Oceanographic Service dismissed the possibility of a tsunami from the quake.
The quake shook buildings in the capital of Santiago, over 300 miles away from the quake’s epicenter.
Authorities have reported no preliminary injuries or damage other than the communication to the region (cell phone towers and phone lines) being down.
