Islamic terrorists have launched a massive counterassault in the northern Mali town of Gao. Heavy gunfire is ringing through the city as the terrorists attempted to recapture the city hall. The resulting assault has left the courthouse in flames.
The terrorists also detonated a car bomb near a French military encampment in Kidal.
According to the BBC, the courthouse in Gao was the headquarters for the terrorists when they were in control of the town. The assault began shortly before midnight and continued through the early morning hours.
The terrorists released a statement that they will continue to attack the city.
“Our troops have been ordered to attack. If the enemy is stronger, we’ll pull back only to return stronger, until we liberate Gao,” Abu Walid Sahroui said.
French officials would not comment about whether the latest change in terrorist tactics will impact their plan to remove 4,000 French troops next month.
