Toronto police are searching for a group of Islamists after what they are calling a “hate crime” attack on a veteran’s memorial.

A sculpture dedicated to Canada’s war veterans was defaced with the phrase “Canada will burn; Praise Allah.”

“That’s a total disrespect for our sworn members and military members who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” police Det. Anthony Williams told the Toronto Sun.

Another nearby sign was found with the phrase “Holy Jihad” written on it in the same manner as the defacement on the veteran’s memorial.

“For someone to stoop to that level…,” Toronto Mayor Rob Ford said, “makes me absolutely sick.”

Family members of veterans were significantly disturbed by the incident.

“It’s terrible to see them destroy what these veterans have done for us,” 72-year-old George Murphy said. Murphy’s father fought at Normandy in World War II.

It wasn’t the only act of disrespect to veterans faced on Veteran’s Day. A group of anti-war protesters invaded the city’s memorial to fallen veterans and proceeded to shout slogans during the moment of silence tribute to the fallen.
