Terrorists launched a grenade attack that injured at least 10 Kenyan police officers was apparently carried out in retaliation for Kenyan military assistance to troops in Somalia fighting the al-Shabab Islamic terrorist organization.
The officers were assaulted as they searched a house near Mombasa for weapons. They were attacked after finding an AK-47 rifle and two grenades.
The head of police for the Coast province where Mombasa is located told the BBC that three terrorists were killed in an exchange of gunfire during the assault. Al-Shabab terrorists have carried out a series of attacks during the last year in the Coast region aiming to hurt the country’s tourism industry.
At the end of last month the Kenyan army helped African Union forces take the last al-Shabab stronghold in Somalia by liberating the port of Kismayu.
