November figures have Eurozone unemployment at a new record high of 11.8%, rising .1% from October figures and the previous high. The European Union as a whole held at 10.7%.
Spain, still in the midst of a deep recession and potential banking collapse, again lead all countries with a 26.6% unemployment rate. Over 26 million people are unemployed across the European Union.
Greece showed the second highest unemployment rate at 20%. However, they led the Eurozone in the highest level of youth unemployment (residents 18-25) with 57.6%. Spain followed closely at 56.5%.
EU President Jose Manuel Barroso said the he believed the worst is over for the EU. However, the BBC’s chief economic correspondent said the trend for unemployment remains upward and that it’s going to be harder for governments to collect taxes to pay debts.
