Al-Qaeda Threatens To Take Over Syrian Chemical Weapon Facility

syria-weaponsIn the midst of the Syrian Civil War, intelligence officials around the world are concerned that Syria’s chemical weapons facility could fall into the hands of al-Qaeda.

The factory outside al-Safira is in the midst of intense fighting between rebels and government forces. The plant is located inside one of the government’s most fortified military bases.

The base is known to be a production center for the nerve gas Sarin, which the Syrian government has reportedly used on rebels during the last few months of the ongoing civil war. The United States admitted for the first time that it had obtained evidence of the al-Assad regime using “small” amounts of sarin nerve gas which President Obama had called a “red line” that the Syrian government could not cross.

Concerns have increased that because the west now knows Syria used the weapons that the government will use them on a greater scale.

Lost in this concern is that the lead rebel group outside the base is flying the flag of the al-Nusra Brigade which pledged allegiance last week to Al-Qaeda and their mission to control the world through Sharia Law.

Sarin is 500 times as toxic as cyanide.
